Amazon's App Store is an alternative to the Google Play store. Your purchase in the Amazon App Store is saved to your profile and you can download your app to any compatible device at any time in the future from their server. There's no need to "download it to the pc" for transfer later, as long as the app stays in the Amazon App store.


There is a chance that an app will become so outdated that Amazon removes it for access from their server. There is also a chance that Amazon will remove an app from their server due to legal issues as well. In these cases, you will not be able to re-download the apps even if you have purchased them.


This service works much in the same way as it does in the Google Play store, Nook store or Apple's App Stores.

But then any time you use an Appstore app, it will restart the Amazon process though. It was just more pain than gain for me.

alternative solution, is to use something like tasker....

have tasker enable amazon app store when you launch a list of specific apps (eg those that you got from the amazon app store)

then have tasker disable amazon app store when you "exit" those apps

Gotcha. Maybe mine acts differently; I'm playing with old technology (Optimus S). I also got tired of the Amazon app growing be leaps and bounds, so I have an older .apk file for their first rendition of the store that still lets me load most the stuff I want without eating away at my limited memory space.

There's also Solitaire, Spider, and Free Cell available free and have good reviews.

That's true, not a bad idea..

But if an app store makes me take that much effort to work around their shoddy practices, I don't really care to support them

I don't believe either of these things will actually keep the Amazon Appstore from running constantly each time you reboot your device. But the one thing that will happen if you uncheck "Unknown Sources" is that you won't be able to install any apps at all from Amazon Appstore.
