Thanks for replying; I have given you reputation points. What about the WD - My Net N750 I just posted above for $49.99?

I'm heading over to Google.com to find out what dual band can do for me.

Thanks,
Tofu Vic
5.0GHz band is slick if you are in an area with a lot of wireless signals, I've consistently lived in places with 10-15 wireless routers in range and not had issues, so while I've got a dual-band router I haven't bothered to by 5Ghz adapters for all my devices.

If going dual-band it makes sense to pay more and get simultaneous dual-band, because you lose a lot of flexibility in either/or.

The one you listed doesn't have the greatest reviews on Amazon, some complaints about signal range, but it seems like a pretty solid router for $50. I've recommended that medialink to a number of my friends who have been well-pleased, (4.5 stars on amazon with 4,700+ reviews is pretty crazy). There are obviously much more powerful routers available, just depends on your needs.

I just got this modem last week, ordered for $80ish from Amazon to replace my old SB5121. My speeds went from wildly varying from 3Mbps to 24Mbps to solid 32Mbps everytime I dl from usenet now. Also my RDP sessions from work to home I can max my download and RDP is still smooth, before I could be downlaoding at just a few MB and RDP would be unusuable. Highly recommend this modem!
That's my big thing as well... good upload to make my remote SSH sessions from work smooth and responsive. Comcast just bumped up my area to 50/10 (this week) and this SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 modem was a very timely purchase for this upgrade...

I don't really care about faster downloads, but I would like a much more generous upload allotment...

Reading Amazon comments someone claims that white are the consumer models and black are only able to be purchased through cable companies - so any purchases of black not from cable company are likley used or something. (I merely assumed they were OEM but who knows). YMMV and take it with a grain of salt I guess.

Either way I also linked it to Amazon for price matching just in case. Just cuz I have Prime and returns and issues are handled with greater ease on Amazon than ebay or other locations (the extra 8 dollar premium if Amazon Matches is worth the piece of mind for me anyways!)
Best Buy is having both black and white in store, hmmm I'm worrying now Wink

Comcast just doubled speeds in my area yesterday and I needed a new modem to get the full speed.

Add a cheap filler (I used this: Coax Cable [newegg.com])and use $10 off $100 code VALPAK10 to get it down to $70.98 AR. Or if you are a new customer, NEWCUSTOMER is $10 off $50 so you wouldn't need a filler and it would cost $65.99 AR.
Just curious, what are your new speeds? Is it a new minimum speed, or do you have a high tier package? I guess I am in the lower tier where I'm paying for 20 Mbps and I normally see about 24 Mbps on my Motorola DOCSIS 2.0 modem. I would hate for them to randomly increase the speed and me never know because I don't own a 3.0 modem Smilie

When I first switched to DOCSIS 3 my speeds effectively doubled on Comcast, I was on their 12M package and shot up to ~22 with the modem, since then they've gone to a 20M plan and I still get ~22, so I don't think you're missing anything.

I see you're CA like me, so hopefully my info is helpful and at least somewhat accurate for your scenario...

I was subscribed to "High Speed Internet" per my bill with no notation of it being a Performance package or anything like that. Through my DOCSIS 2.0 Linksys CM100 modem, I was getting speed tests of 24/4. If that's what you're getting now, then you would more than likely be in a Performance package.

Add $10 and that would bring you to the Blast package which is/was stated to be 30Mbps per the rep on the phone (not what I see as stated on their Website as being up to 25Mbps). Speed tests from my house would yield around 36Mbps (using my DOCSIS 3.0 SB6141 modem). Now that Comcast has bumped speeds as of this week for the Bay Area in CA, I now see 55/high-10 speeds...

I've got the SB5121 now. I am paying for 20 Mbps from Comcast and normally get 15-22 or so when I do a speedtest.net. I can't really complain about it getting too crappy... Do you (or anyone else) think I should upgrade to this 3.0 modem anyway?

The rest of my computer and network setup (dual band 2.4ghz/5ghz router) seems to be more up to date than my several year old modem. I figured as long as I'm paying for the 20 or 30 Mbps package I'm fine...

A little disappointed the SB5121 re-sells used for like $10 on eBay though lol.

Thanks for any advice.

You had me at 55 Mbps lol. I used to have the 30 Mbps package, but when I complained about my tv/cable price, they cut it down but also cut me down to the 20 Mbps tier. Might be time to bump it again.
Seeing that you're in the Bay Area and are seeing 55 on a 30mbps plan... That's enough for me. I know it's no guarantee, but I'm too much of a tech geek to chance letting it pass me by.

Thanks very much for the info.

Damn, I just purchased a 6121 from Amazon last week for install of my internet today. Ah well, I don't have the speed that I would really need it but this would be cheaper (cause I am an Amazon tax state :/)

I have a Linksys CM100 (DOCSIS 2.0) modem on Comcast. Today I power-cycled the modem and my speeds went from 25/3 to 33/5. Any chance the SB6141 would bump it up even more?

I purchased this modem when I had TWC 20/1.5mbps last year. I was getting an average of 16mpbs with their POS cisco and this had me at 20.****mbps 100% of the time after they added the mac id to their system. This was when they were charging $8/mo for the doscis 3.0 modem with wifi if their modem is free I'd rethink this purchase. Great deal tho I think I paid like $110 for it not even a year ago.
