Can anyone recommend a docsis 3 modem with VOIP for Comcast service? Many thanks!
I think if you have Comcast's phone service you have to use their modem.

Just curious, what are your new speeds? Is it a new minimum speed, or do you have a high tier package? I guess I am in the lower tier where I'm paying for 20 Mbps and I normally see about 24 Mbps on my Motorola DOCSIS 2.0 modem. I would hate for them to randomly increase the speed and me never know because I don't own a 3.0 modem Smilie
I have the Blast tier which was 24 down / 4 up. It just got increased in my area (Houston) to 50Mbps down / 10Mbps up. I only have a Docsis 2 modem right now and see speeds of 28-30 down and 10 up. Other people that already have a Docsis 3 modem are seeing the full 50/10. Check your bill to see which level you are on. If it is "Performance" a Docsis 2 modem is still fine. Blast or Extreme and you would want a Docsis 3 modem to get the full speed.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. But i live in Brazil and normaly i ignore all Rebates deals. Is it possible to us who live here using those rebates at Newegg, Tigerdirect and Amazon?Confused
I would guess that you generally can't get them but read the terms on the rebate sheet to make sure. This specific one says that it's only valid in the 50 United States and it's territories.

Just a quick warning. Comcast customers using the SB6121 have since August of last year real issues with connections timing out and the router rebooting itself. There's even a 13 page thread concerning this here [comcast.com].

It would seem just recently (3/12) that comcast just updated their firmware for the SB61xx (see here [comcast.com]). I have no idea if/how this will affect performance but just the same I thought I'd mention it.

Many of the users of the SB6121 got fed up with their modem and went with a similar Zoom DOSIS model.

Thought I should mention this if any of you run into any issues with your SB6141 in conjunction with Comcast.

Actually you can get free VOIP with Comcast by purchasing a third party VOIP system like the Ooma system. I haven't paid a red penny for phone service since purchasing this unit and it has worked well.

Thanks for the tip!
Were you able to find documentation somewhere, maybe on the Comcast website, that the blast tier is now 50mbps? Or is that just one of those things that happened behind the scenes? Would love to make see that that's the case for the San Francisco Bay Area.

What makes this so slick over other avenues such as eBay?
(see people here buying it for around 70 no rebates)

I'm highly considering this since those extra two lanes for DOCSIS 3.0 might result in stability of speeds on our Cox Highest-Speed-Package connection.

And for people who know about routers, is this a good investment or should I be investing in something newer?

I'm a recent graduate who's living with 4-7 guys making a solid modem and a solid router (got the WDR4300 with OpenWRT) a good idea for investing.

Is this a good idea?

Looks like most of California should be getting it right now as well.

Only a few select areas listed in the press release will have to wait until summer.

Guaranteed new with a warranty. There has been reports of the ebay ones being used or refurbished. And if you do get a new one, it probably isn't from an authorized retailer so Motorola may deny any warranty claims if you have problems with it.

The 6141 is the newest available right now.

Yes, expedited shipping is free from that seller by default.

Hope this helps,

Yup, add me to the list of $67 with free shipping from modems-modems on eBay. Just completed transaction, says to expect it delivered 3/26 or 3/27.

Thanks for the tip. Don't try an offer less than $67, it gets auto-rejected.

Is there a way I could ask Comcast to update the firmware since they seem to haven't done so on mine yet?
