Ah, I folded, cancelled the four drives I ordered this morning and reordered five for the Synology 1512+ we ordered this week. Hopefully both orders will be here early next week. In fact, Newegg has only one day delivery! I see Newegg is already packaging the drives. Kudos to Paige of Newegg.com for handling my live chat case smoothly!
It would be nice to get 3TB drives for future-proofing but I think the 2TBs are a little bit more reliable since it since it isn't packing too much data on the platters and besides, the two old 1st gen Drobos I have can only use 2TB maximum so in case the 3TB (or 4 or 5) drives goes as low as the 2TB now, I can just use the 2TB on the Drobos. Win-win. With RAW photographs file size getting bigger all the time and clients piling up, I need all the space I can get!

Hey guys,
I've asked this before but got mixed answers. Are RED drives okay for desktop storage? I have two aging WD Blue 640gb I want to replace. Would like the 3 year warranty over the 2 year warranty of a WD Green. OS and programs already on an SSD. Thanks for any help! |

be careful, once you go black you never go back
As others have said though, I wouldn't install stuff and run programs from it... you can, but it won't be as fast as black of course. Last edited by Samlt2k1; 03-23-2013 at 07:20 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Here's a review of how they perform in Synology NAS units.
http://www.storagereview.com/west...w_wd30efrx As to desktop storage, they're not designed for that and WD will not support them as well for use in that scenario. Normally you can find same capacity drives for the same if not better pricing, though deals like this throw that askew at times. |

anyone figure out why Western Digital is marketing a Taylor Swift line of hard drives?
The truth: Management at IRS can blame themselves and how they have chaotic and poor management, but God-forbid you, or I, or anybody else in America gets audited and doesn't have their ducks in order and s***-together, your ass is going to court or jail.
Shout out to Congressman Mike Kelly for stating it as it is... Link [realclearpolitics.com] |

This deal bought to you Exclusively by NewEGG - One of the major Sponsors of this Website.
Note the 3TB WD Red was at the Rakuten website for $90 or less in the past few weeks. The less I quote is because of the $5 CB I received from Discover making it essentially $85. Some deal this FP one is for a 2TB one. |
