Saw this in the TD email. Decent price, but USB 2.0? What were they thinking?

PS, I haven't cracked one open, but it's more than likely your standard green drive in case anyone is wondering.

Forgot - one big positive is that it doesn't say Seagate on it.

Actually it seems the more recent large Seagate drives have been getting much better reviews. Maybe they're using more of the Samsung stuff.

Anyone know if this drive can be modified with WDIDLE? For example to shut off the power saving crap.

rebate gives me extra cashback = take time to do rebate + stamp + time to wait for rebate (not in case your rebate rejected)

$100 for a WD red should be standard pricing, no rebate involved.

I'll buy them to fill my Synology NAS'es, but I don't think there's anything special about Red drives. They're just the current model of a 5400 RPM drive with a few software tweaks to not puke the way green drives do, and an over hyped marketing promotion to make us think they're different.

We're still suffering from the "screw the customer" flood/industry consolidation pricing. $150+ for a bare Red drive? $150+ for a 2TB Black, which I purchased at Micro Center for $99 (SATA 3, 6GBs, boxed retail) before the flood? What's wrong with this picture?

TD and rebates: bad experience. Maybe not TD directly but they have to be careful whose rebate they put on their product pages.
