TireRack is closing out the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 Winter Tires which are tied for #1 rated winter tires by Consumer Reports. They have several sizes in stock. I just purchased a set of 4 for mine which were about $100 cheaper than elsewhere including $54 shipping.

Not a steal for my 195/60/15 tires, unfortunately. Discount Tire Direct is $100 cheaper right now.

So do I have to take these off in the summer time or are the good all year round?

Also does it screw with gas mileage at all?
You will definitely see a real hit to your mileage. Part of why these work so well in the snow is that they have really bad rolling resistance. They are really soft (think malleable with just your finger) and able to bite into any snow or slush put in front of them. Last I used some, I noted a rough 10% hit to my FE.

Expect 1-2 MPG loss. Not a huge deal at all.

FYI, Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 (also winter tires) seem to be on clearance too

They don't have my 235/45-17 on sale, but you can fit slightly different tire sizes on your rims, this calculator [miata.net] will help you find a ratio that keeps the outer diameter about the same so you don't throw off your speedometer or run into fender clearance problems.
If you have wide tires, going with skinnier tires can help your traction in slush and snow. I can go with 215/50-17 and my spedo will only be off by .3 MPH at 60.

Yeah shipping seems a bit high considering other places ship free. However, it still came out to be $100 cheaper shipped for a set of 4 tires for me. There weren't many places that I could find that even carried the Xi2 size I needed. The Xi3's were available, but were a lot more expensive and the Xi2's were rated just as high as the Xi3's by Consumer Reports.

Is there a free shipping code or some kinda promo that I can't find via google? Shipping to me = 54.70, which would put the 4 tires for the GFs Cruze @ $300 and a lil. Seems like not much of a deal at that point ://

You will probably never find a free shipping code for TireRack. And what, exactly, makes $300 shipped for top-rated winter tires "not much of a deal"? If you can't do better locally, it's a deal... and I don't mean 4 winter tires, I mean four of THESE tires.

I am in Chicago and the winter tires are only available for shipping from Nevada for $100. (WTF, why do they store winter tires in Nevada in the first place Smilie ), anyways with a set of rims, the shipping cost goes up to $200. Forget it, time to move on ...

Yea, you know....just like that last post that said "Only up to 17's. Weaksauce"
I'm visualizing 21"rims with short sidewalls bumping "c"rap music rolling with snows!

Whats the best place to get wheel covers for these? For the black generic ones I see about 56 bucks.
