Looks like a good deal with enough pressure for nail gun projects and pumping up tires.

Pretty close price to Harbor Freight prices.

Researching Lowes, HD and HF, 2.4cfm @ 90 is pretty good for a 3 gallon at this price. Go larger for more...

I have a model like this with a built-in retractable hand truck. The hand truck handles broke off with minimal use, but the compressor works fine.

Agree. 2.4 cfm is considerably better than the 0.7 cfm typical of many 3 gal compressors. Price is higher than the $50 I paid for my Kmart TNT 3 gal last year ; but it's only 0.7 cfm.

BTW Lubrication Type = Oil lubricated ; but that shouldn't be a deal breaker. Might even be better than the so called permanent lubricated types.

A good price for the power. Most of the 3 gallon portables have pretty wimpy pumps. Harbor freight has 1/3 HP, 3 gal, .6CFM @ 90 psi on sale for $60 right now ($10 off reg.), and this is a lot better for only $10 more. Plus it's the craftsman name, and presumably better warranty.

I would be sorely tempted if I hadn't just bought a used 2HP 3 gal pancake through craigslist this AM. :-)

This unit is way better than the harbor freight units. I bought the harbor freight unit (3 gallon) on sale for $40 a few months ago and the wimpy motor takes forever to get up to speed. Use a full sized framing nailer or a moderate air hog of a air tool and you'll be hearing the harbor freight unit run continuously.

And therein lies the problem. Sealed/cheap/direct drive units will overheat with continued usage. They're not designed for continuous usage. You want the motor to shut off and the fins to radiate the heat away. Heat degrades everything and hence the oil as a heat moving/dissipating medium.

If you're looking to just nail in some light trim with a trim nailer, then the harbor freight unit is fine. Want portability and use a full framing nailer or maybe an auto tool? Good luck with anything less than 1 cfm, either you'll be waiting constantly for the tank to fill or the tool won't work sufficiently, if at all.

this is a pretty good deal for everything. If you already had all the other parts, then maybe you can sell that to a buddy who needs those cheap add ons.

Oiled is way better than oil less. They last longer and maintenance really isn't much of an issue (drain & refill every...year?). Put a quality synthetic oil in for easier starts (especially in cooler weather) and quieter/cooler running.
