Thanks OP for this thread, how does this compare to Pioneer SC-1222-K which is selling for $500?
7.2 v/s 9.2, 120 v/s 130 wats/ch and $600+tax v/s $500 is the main difference, i just need a decent 7.1 receiver to power my RC-70 's, any input is appreciated.

I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-50 and VSX-60 (nearly identical, just a year newer model). They both push 90x7. It is what I planned to use for some Polk Audio Monitor speakers (Monitor 70 Series IIs, CS2 II Center and Monitor 30 IIs for the rear surrounds). I've heard that the M70's are quite power hungry. Would my 60 (or 50) struggle to get decent sound out of them in a 5.1 config? I know the 1522 has more features, inputs, etc., but I'll never use the additional inputs, won't be going 7.2 anytime soon (let alone 9.2), etc. I only have about $200/ea. in the Pioneer Elites (open box deals from BB) and am impressed with what they currently bring to the table (I haven't hooked up my Polk Audio speakers yet -- I promised my wife I'd keep them sealed for another few weeks).

I was able to get a 1522 from BB (PM to Costco) and another today from Costco (broke down and signed up). Since the BB return policy is limited, I would hate to not be able to return it because my window of opportunity closed and I haven't had a chance to test it with the Polks. If people are confident that my Elite receivers will do the job, I'll hang onto them and try to flip (or return) the BB one and perhaps hang onto the Costco one.

BTW, the Perimeter Mall (Georgia) location supposedly had six as of around 11 AM ET. Stopped in today and snagged one. I saw four left on the shelves when I picked mine up, so either they have more in the back somewhere or they are down to three or so. Cumberland Mall location had zero (I don't think they ever got any in as I checked when the deal first was posted and checked again today).

OK, very quick initial impressions, upgrading from a Yamaha RX-A1000.
Thanks for the info - I was on the bubble to upgrade from a older denon 889, but the lack of a gui overlay drives me nuts. I love to tweak stuff and my current one doesnt do it either, and that still bugs me.

It does overlay some settings (volume, surround settings, video settings), but to get in the main settings menus, the screen overrides video and audio, as opposed to the Yamaha which lets you access most menus with an overlay (some block out video, but audio usually keeps playing).

The weird HDMI labeling and access is giving me a fit with this thing, especially with trying to get it to work with a Harmony 900. The receiver has 8 HDMI inputs, but the Pioneer remote and the Harmony database don't provide direct access to HDMI 6 and HDMI 7. Then you have to remember that HDMI 1 is DVD by default, HDMI 5, is the MHL port on the front, HDMI 8 is BD, etc. It's a maddening problem for what is otherwise a great unit.

The Yamaha doesn't have as many bells and whistles, but it was way easier to setup (with the exception of firmware updates, which are a bit of a PITA on the Yamaha).

Have you had any luck getting one at the Houston store?

Picked one up in Henderson Nevada (last one on shelf)....floor assistant said 16 more will arrive on 4-6, 4-7

Upgrading from Denon 3312ci. I owned Pioneer before that and was very pleased with the sound. It took me a while to warm up to the Denon, hopefully this Pio will crush it for me, or it will be returned.
