So how long is this price supposed to be good for in case I want to try and match it at Best Buy?

This may seem like a really weird question but I have an odd situation. Would this be considered a likely once in a lifetime price for this receiver? Since it's $1300 from Amazon and $1600 from Best Buy it seems like it's too good of a deal to pass up. The only problem is that I won't actually be hooking this thing up for probably a year or so. I live in a condo with very thin walls so this would surely disturb the neighbors. However, if $600 now gets me a receiver that, in a year, is still considered toward the top of the line (is this a the top of the line in regards to receivers?) maybe it's worth it to get now and hold onto it so when I am actually wanting to hook one up, I'm not spending $600 on a $700 receiver when I could have spent $600 on a $1300 receiver. Does receiver technology change that drastically anymore?

buy it and set it up....don't keep it boxed.

Yes. Pioneer has a custom system they use called MCACC.

Is it a once in a lifetime price? Not quite, but it's pretty darn rare for a receiver of this caliber to go on sale for a price like this.

Best Buy occasionally has clearance deals on receivers like this, but they're rare and hard to find.

This is a pretty high-end receiver. Pioneer does offer a couple of higher-end models, like the SC-68, which retails for a whopping $2300 (about the same as Yamaha's RX-A3020).

Is it possible there will be deals like this in the future? Yes. Is it likely? Well, not really. I don't think the differences are going to be very big over the next year or two. Five might be a different story. This is a remarkable deal on a nice receiver. For me, I am done for the next several years.
I've seen receivers on Best Buy's clearance portion but I haven't seen a 9.2 system yet and I definitely haven't seen any receiver with $1000 price drop.

I don't even have speakers yet but like I said there is no way I could actually use this at the moment. My computer speakers can go through the walls very easily right now and it's a 2.1 system that I bought probably 10 years ago. I was just wondering if I would really regret not buying this in a year for the price it's at now. But when I get my own house, I think a sound system will be the second purchase I make (first purchase will be a fantastic washing machine haha).

do not bother unless you plan on moving soon. Something better and greater will be around the corner to take it place at discounted price.

I've seen many deals for receiver on here but none of them seem to be such a price drop. It is usually like a $550 receiver for $300 or a $600 for $360. But a $1500 receiver for $600 hasn't shown up that I've seen before. I likely won't get this though just because $600 is a lot to have sitting in a box waiting to use it haha

Buy it now from Costco. Save the receipt and if something else comes along better take it back to costco.

Ok, Sorry if I sound lame/ignorant.

I have absolutely no idea what this would do and what is this required for? I saw it just today and also have Costco membership, if deal is still alive and it is worth buying, then I might jump on this.

But, can some one explain to me in simple terms what is it used for. The reviews on Amazon says for home theatre experience. I have a smart TV (Sony) wallmounted, the video quality is excellent, but when it comes to Netflix movies the audio is worst. Not sure if it just the problem at Netflix, since the Youtube videos play fine. Mad

And I do not have any of the Apple products (iphone/ipad etc). Would this be of any use to me ? wave

If it is, not sure if it can be wall mounted too (hate to have somethings lying on the side table/floor, which kills the look of wall mounted TV).

Please answer.
TIA

If you don't have speakers, (not the ones built into your TV), this is NOT for you. a receiver:

1.Provides power to your speaker

2.Gives you ability to "manipulate" sound through various technologies. One of the most common, best known examples is surround sound.

If you see numbers like 5.1, 7.1, 9.1 it refers to the max number of speakers it can support (5, 7, 9). The 1 refers to the number of subwoofers it can support.

This receiver can support up to 9 speakers and two subwoofers, not typically seen in an average receiver.

Not sure what is going on with your Netflix. Are you streaming via internet TV, Xbox 360, PC?

Having or not having Apple products is really of secondary concern. First, you need to purchase speakers.

No it cannot be wall mounted without some sort of modification.

GreenChillies,
I have a feeling this would not be your best option, based on the description you have offered of your existing AV equipment.

The item that is being discussed in this thread is a "home theater receiver." It's primary purpose is to allow you to connect a system of external speakers to your television (and other home theater devices, video game systems, etc.) This is the component that delivers surround sound to as many as 9 satellite speakers and two subwoofers. (It also has other features, like an AM/FM tuner, Pandora, etc.) It does not come with speakers, and it is not something one would wall mount. It was designed to sit horizontally in a cabinet or on a tv stand.

TLDR: If you don't know what this does, you probably don't need it. If you are interested in improving your television's sound, you would probably be well served by a much less expensive unit or an off the shelf system with speakers.

Thanks to both of u. No I do not have any external speakers atleast for the TV that I am talking about. As for Netflix, I play from the Smart TV only. I have Roku too for this TV, but still the volume is same. To hear clear and loud, I have to play at 60 voulme bars.

But on my other TV (Panasonic), I can hear clear and loud at 20 volume bars only. This TV has the external speakers( the free ones that came with this deal back in 2008 or 2009 from bestbuy deal that was posted here)
