I am running this now on Energy Veritas set. The sound is nice and full. From what I heard, this receiver will be best matched by B&W series 6 and up...for the people here that need a suggestion on a speaker set. To get the full usage out of this nice receiver, you better spend 4-5 grand on speakers.
I think when you're spending $5k on speakers, you've moved out of the "receiver" territory and into amp territory... I just bought a Pass X250.5 amp for my logans, best $4k I ever spent, they sound like totally new speakers now Wink

I think this receiver can replace separates in most cases. It allows less cable clutter too. I have several computers in home network, one directly connected to this receiver, several AV devices connected to the receiver, etc. All of them including the TV are network devices. It becomes a problem to use and manage all of them. So, recently, I am a fan of simplification and miniaturization Smilie.

This receiver runs 9 speakers - entry level 5-6" good speakers are 400-500 each on sale, so here it goes around $4k including some small sub. $4k doesn't buy that much today. I was just pointing to the guys here that is not worth to get this receiver and $200-300 "surround speaker setup" - they can achieve the same with anything sold half cheaper anyway.

I disagree that you need to spend that much on speakers. there is a point where the returns are not as great per dollar.

that being said this receiver looks awesome and rule of thumb is 2-3 times as much on speakers should be spent in comparison to your receiver.

any who, someone said there were some in Austin? not when I called so I settled for the sc1222. this is still an awesome deal if you can get it AND have use for the extra channels and features

See, the MSRP is $1600, applying rule of thumb ~$3200-4800 for speakers, to match the designated sound quality Smilie

It is just a luck that Costco sales it for $600. The receiver deserves good speakers, and vice versa

I also bought this receiver and I don't have speakers yet. The room is 22X19 and I am having a hard time deciding on speakers for my HT.

I though I would buy the infinity P363 which go on sale, but then I read comments where people say to spend more money on speakers and I feel will I be disappointed with the infinity or the polk monitor 75T.

So, I look for something else go with to the polk RTIA7 or the Focal Chorus 716v.

I am no audiophile and I am happy with my current HTIB, so will I really hear so much of a difference by spending $1000 vs. $300-400?

I picked up the JBL studio 1 series for 515 shipped for the 5.0 package from newegg. It really is an awesome speaker set paired with the sc-1222 (costco does not have the sc-1522 in my town Frown ). My room is 17 x 13 and open to kitchen and walkway. But these speakers still delivery very well. I also 2 lava subs to cover any lack in low end though Wink

p.s. these replaced my polk m50s, cs1 and r300s. sounds is alot brighter and sweet spot is much wider.

Just in case anyone is wishing they'd caught this don't give up. Yesterday my wife picked up one in Arlington, Tx and there were still 5 left. A store employee at the location said they had only been selling 1 or 2 a week.
