ahhh...thats right

A worthless feature...IMO...or the way Onkyo implements it anywway

I have a panasonic ST50 connected to an Onkyo 5009

whenever I turn on the receiver and TV the Onkyo defaults to TV speakers

I never use Tv speakers.....I have to run the Onkyo volume knob in one direction or the other and then I hear a click and it switches to the receiver volume out

A worthless feature...I dont use the HDMI input on the TV that says ARC

Same with the HDMI control...first off each manufacturer does it a little differently and I always wind up with something happening that I dont like
So I turn that feature off on the AV gear I have as well

On another note...

a few hundred more than this deal is a substantial amount of money considering this receivers price of $599
dont know the differences of the two receivers...others have speculated in this thread that the units are pretty similar..if not identical

..and then there is that Costco "satisfaction guarantee"

and again....someone here post who knows the facts...does that mean you would get a lifetime warranty on this receiver?
Turnne, I'm having the same issue with my receiver as kostyanj. I purchased an open box Yamaha RX-V3900 from BB. I ended up getting it about 4 years ago for $899, and I thought I got a good deal, until I read how much you "stole" a Z7 for. Impressive! Anyway, I ended up purchasing a Panasonic plasma P60GT50, and was wanting to get a receiver that supported ARC as well. I'm curious if I should stay with the Yamaha, or if I should give the Pioneer a go?

Before the Yamaha, I had purchased a Denon that died in less than 30 days of ownership. It sounded good, and I felt that the video processor was way ahead of the Yamaha. But I feel the Yamaha definitely sounds better than the Denon did.

I need something that will drive my 2 Definitive Technology BP7002s, Definitive Mythos Three Center Channel, and two 8 inch Polk in-ceiling rear speakers efficiently.

I'm not a huge fan of Onkyo, they seem to be a somewhat brighter receiver. The Yamahas are also considered to be bright sounding as well...but I feel, even though they can be bright, they are more well-balanced to me. I would have given Denon another listen (2312CI), but it was sold when I got to BB. They had it listed for $349 for an open box. Let me know what you think.

Also, for the SD community, no SC-1522-K receivers in the SW FL area. They cannot confirm whether they will be receiving any stock or not.

FWIW, the guy I talked to today regarding a membership said you can just cancel it and get a refund. Not sure if he meant "pro-rated" or full refund, but...

EDIT: Just found this [costco.com].
Well crap, hopefully I can try tomorrow and they are in stock after work.

if you can find this Pioneer for $599...I say buy that

IMO you have a pretty nice receiver..in fact I would imagine the denon you mentioned would be a downgrade

As I recall the Z7 I had( used for 9 months and sold it for a $250 profit.Smilie) was not bright sounding....though I didnt own a 3900 I would imagine they would have sounded very similar

Not sure what your budget is...and I know you think Onkyos sound bright however
However you might want to look at Accessories4less.com...they sell refurbished units with a 1 year factory warranty
They have Onkyo, denon, marantz and few other assorted models typically

I have bought twice from them and the units I received..IMO...looked like they were brand new
Do buy the extended warranty if you buy from them...and especially if you buy an Onkyo

A couple of months ago..I would have suggested you dig through Magnolia HT locations for their open box demo units...they had an extra 10% coupon off floating around as well
I was able to snag a yamaha A2010 for 499 and Pioneer SC57 for $750
Still debating on that SC57...thought I would like it better than the SC37...I dont

For the price of the Pioneer in this thread you can do pretty well at Accessories 4less.com...if you cant find the Pioneer

I prefer the mix of reliability and Audyssey that Denon offers, but this unit at $600... from Costco... is awfully close to a no-brainer. If I see one of these in my Costco it will be really hard to pass up.

If you are actually looking... buy now think later.

You can always take it back or likely sell it for a small profit, if you feel bad about returning. But I doubt you'll return it.

Only thing that is stopping me is the 1 year warranty. Would love to enjoy this safely for longer than 1 year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you essentially covered for the foreseeable future with Costco? A former colleague of mine said he took like a 10-year-old blender (or something like that) back with no hassles and got his money back. I know they limit TV returns, etc., but are receivers on the list?

Also, certain credit cards will extend/double your warranty (i.e. Discover, AMEX, I believe, etc.).

EDIT: Just dug up his Facebook post.

First experience with Costco's awesome return policy... Took in a 3 year old Keurig that started leaking with the packing slip (it was a gift) No questions asked, no attitude. Had the cash and a new one purchased in 5 minutes...

For those in the Tri-State region, 3 of the Costco's have the Pioneer 1522 in stock. In NY, the Wesbury (Long Island) NY store has a dozen. The Bridgewater NJ had 16 as of this afternoon and the Norwalk, CT store has 13 left. Hope this helps the search for this receiver in the area.

You are exactly right, Costco's lifetime guarantee covers everything except TVs, Projectors and PCs, that's what makes this such a no brainer, unless you don't have a brain like turnne ... LMAO

The return policy is really loose at Costco.

I've seen someone return 4 year old pathway lighting, and just rebuy them again... It's crazy what some people do.

I saw this unit at my local store today. This is a very sexy looking unit. I wish I had waited for this unit and had not purchased the HK unit a few weeks ago for $299 from Best Buy when it was FP deal.
