There's a lot of in depth discussion on here, so my question is pretty noobish by comparison. Are there many (or even any?) sources of 9.1 or 9.2 content out there? I have a 7.1 receiver and even that I don't fully utilize all the time. Some blu rays are 7.1 but it seems like many more are 5.1. I'm not aware of any streaming sources that go beyond 5.1, and as far as I know, most downloaded content, legal or illegal, is 5.1 or possibly 7.1 if you go "high end" so to speak. So when I see a deal on a receiver that has 9 channels, I always wonder if people can actually utilize them all? Or do you buy something like this because of the higher end sound quality, and the additional channels are just for future compatibility? Thanks in advance.
Currently none have more than 7.1. Technically DTS master and DD can support it though. People buy these for the enhanced capacity of the amplifiers. Most amplifiers won't reach near there advertised capacity. This probably won't either but it is closer.

The two Costcos nearest me just told me "We don't have any receivers" when I called. Bummer.

Honestly they may not even know, it's a new one-time purchase item in their system (I asked, shows up as new item and no reorder) so if you call make sure you ask them to look up item #751220, they can also check the inventory of other area Costcos so no need to call each one individually.

and what point was that?

I said I preferred the Pioneer factory warranty
just so we are clear..You would prefer a one year factory warranty over the costco lifetime satisfaction guarantee? I stand by my "brain trust" comment.
as far as being "uninformed", you are wrong on that as well. Do you frequently gave three different avr's inyour system at yhe same time to compare/contrast? my last three were a denon a100, sherwood 972, and the onkyo 5508. Do you have an audyssey pro installer kit?
Do you know what one is?
For those that asked about the onkyo 818, it does not have dual sub eq.
The onkyo 5009 DOES have dual sub eq by audyssey xt32.
Even if you do not have 8 listening positions, you should run audyssey through all 8 for the best results.

Just to be CLEARER...and I posted in English...nod

I said I would prefer a Pioneer factory warranty...did you miss that part?
I stand by my Einstein comment, perhaps with some vision impairment for not reading what I wrote

as for different AVR's that I own( or have in the past year)
I run a Onkyo 5508 pre/pro and Sherbourn 5/1500A amp in my HT..that has not changed in almost two years

The receivers ( in other rooms) come and go like revolving doors
Pioneer SC07/SC35/SC37/SC57..still own the last two as well as a VSX47TX( stored in closet)
Yamaha A2000/A3000/A2010....still own the last one
Denon 4308/4310
Onkyo 805/807/875/876/905/5009( 2 of them)..PRSC885 and PRSC5508 pre amps
still own an 875/876 /5009( two of them) and the PRSC5508...though I have the inking for the new Marantz 8801 pre/pro to take its place

So..yes..I am very familiar with multiple types of Audessey( and the license)...and well as other manufacturers room correction

anything else you need clarification on?

Just one point. Why would you prefer a Pioneer factory warranty over the costco lifetime satisfaction guarantee?
Impressive lit of receivers, you have owned almost as many as I have if we use the Onkyo 805 as a reference in the last several years...You shuld really try the 4311 though...

To be fair, I'd say he labeled the thread wrong, it's not YMMV as the item is the same price at all Costcos, it's just a limited stock item and B&M only and those types of deals rarely hit FP. Big Grin

Its YMMV cause not all Costco have them, so you just can't walk into any Costco and pick one up.

Got shot down at the Best Buy near me. Even though I had photos from the Costco just a mile or two away. They said they couldn't sell it as it is $500 under their cost.

They had an open box one for $982.xx. LMAO.

Also, I've attached some photos in case they will help anybody.

The last one is Best Buy's "inventory" system. It shows that they typically sell this for $1599.99. The lady did a search and eventually walked away with the screen still up, so I snapped a photo.

LOL....beating a dead horse

For clarification...in the past when I have issues...and there have been many. The factory warranty served me better than the extension did
I bought many of the receivers at FAR below retail...depending on the terms of the extended warranty I was offered cash back....which was far less than it would take me to replace it with a unit of like capability
For example...BB warranty extension says they will give you like the like product ( at that time) or your money back....and this is whatever fits them better financially
I have had two dealings with this...one I prevailed due to the manager.( onkyo 807 to Yamaha A3000)..the other one not so well(yamaha z7)

With a manufacturer warranty...that is not part of the equation..there is no bearing on what you actually paid for the unit
For example..Onkyo has replaced 3 of my receivers...two of them with the then current newer model
For example when the 905 crapped out...they gave me a new 5009
FYI..I only paid $500 for the 905 in the first place as it was a Frys shelf display
At the time Onkyo replaced the 905..the 5009 was just out in the marketplace and selling at close to retail
That has happened twice

I have never seen an extended warranty that would replace a product with one that was 5x what you paid for the item
I had a similar situation with the Denon 4308...somehow Denon worked a deal with Vanns to give me a "house credit" for full price toward something else

I never bit on the 4311 because..to me the 4310 I owned was disappointing
I did an in house demo ( with some hard to drive 4ohm Vienna acoustics Haydn Grand speakers) with the 4310, a yamaha Z7( that I forgot to put on my list)..Pioneer VSX47TX..Onkyo 875
The Pioneer VSX47TX played like a charm at ear splitting levels...the Yamaha Z7 got very hot...The Onkyo 875 got VERY hot..but handled the heavy load...
The Denon 4310 clipped and shut down...I sold it a week later on Ebay( for a profit)

I just bought a 2 year extension( direct from Onkyo) for the 5508 preamp for $50

At some point the Marantz 8801 should fall in price and I think that is the next pre/pro for me

Agreed. It's what they're selling it for on their website that has the "low price guarantee" badge on it.

I noticed that they voilated terms of their low price guarantee.

Does Best Buy match the prices of a Warehouse club?
Yes. We do match the prices of Warehouse clubs as long as the Warehouse club is a local retail competitor, has an identical immediately available product and all other price match criteria are met. We do not match the online prices of warehouse clubs if they vary from store prices.

**BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, THIS ONE...AS IT WAS HIS "EXCUSE" TO DENY THE PM**

Does Best Buy match the price if it results in a price being below Best Buy's cost on a product?
Yes. So long as the price match requested is on an identical immediately available product and all other price match criteria are met.
