Link to Family Plans [t-mobile.com]

OK, this is kinda related to this thread about a new T-Mobile plan, but I want to highlight the Family Plans.

So as an individual you get unlimited min/txt + 500mb of data plus hotspot for $50

but as a Family you get a better deal.

2 Lines for $40 each ($80)
3 Lines for $30 each ($90)
4 Lines for $25 each ($100)
5 Lines for $22 each ($110)

and each person gets the same plan as the the individual paying $50

Plus no contracts required, so if you pool with friends and your friend is a dead beat, no worries about him costing you $200 for an ETF.

Also in my case, I was previously on the Family Value plan was paying $5 for 200mb but now it's included and upgraded to 500mb with free hotspot. So I'm saving $5/line

*you can switch over as long as you are at least 18 months into your existing plan. You will still have to finish out your current plan even though this says "no contract" but if you are out of contract this will not extend your contract.

**corrected my earlier statement, 2GB is available for $10/month, if you want to pick and choice which line gets more data, add the 500MB first then edit each line individually

3 lines with unlimited and you only pay $130 with taxes? How? Which phones? What happened to people who want a subsidized phone and are currently allowed to upgrade? Are they SOL?
"What happened to people who want a subsidized phone "
Yes and maybe no; from t-mobile you are out of luck with full price for all, apparently some 3rd party (bestbuy, staples???) may still be sell sub phones with contract ext, but the prices suck (no free / low cost ) BB curently has the GS3 for 229 for upgrade 129 for new

Like all plans there are some winners and losers based on usage. I am very negative on these plans, I have a classic plan with 4 lines and 750 min and a text block. I have gone over my allotment of billable Mins once in 11 years with t-mobile. I have unlimited data on one smart phone (for work) and 200 (then slowed to 2g) on two others and a plain old flip with no data. The new plan is wash on price I will go from $130 to $130 and pick up texting and unlimited calling I do not want. And for this I give up the free phones I piked up ever two years. and will need to pay full price. The "classic" plans have the new phone pricing.
Don't forget what TMO is doing to replace those subsidies! They are saying phones are FREE or $49 upfront and then they are financing the full price of the phone. This means you will see an extra $20 or so dollars added to your plan for each new phone per line.

Instead of making money on contracts (i.e. locking you down for 2 years) they are making money on the financing they are doing for you. I'm not sure which is better though no contract = no ETF and you can leave anytime you want. Except you can't if you are financing a phone...right? What happens if you cancel service but still are making payments on your phone? Can you just give it back and your done or do you just pay the monthly payment for your phone without service?

Does anyone want to break this down?

The phones I already owned. I have an iPhone 5, Nexus 4, Galaxy s3, and Galaxy s2.
I believe I signed up back in August. It was $50 for 1000 min, $10 for unlimited family text, $20 for each line to have Unlimited 4g data. in Jan 2014 I will be paying and extra $5.00 per month / line for lines 3 and 4.

They keep changing their plans or the website!!!

Yesterday they had more options than 500MB, 2GB, and Unlimited. They had like 6GB, 8GB etc.

Yesterday for 4 lines with 2GB each it was $120, and now it is $140.

What gives?

Pretty sure this is a soft launch. Details are being fine tuned.

wait this mean you can't get phones with contracts?
You don't get a plan contract, you get a phone contract. You pay a bit up front, and pay say $20/mo for 20 months to pay for the phone. The plan is not a contract, so you could get a family plan at these rates and bring your own device, and just switch to something else whenever.

I also noticed that had more data options yesterday as well. Not sure why they took some away unless they felt it was simply too many options. I think the Unlimited data was $140 yesterday but it has dropped to $120 today. For the question about financing the phones, it says you are financing it interest free, so I'm guessing they are just making a flat amount off the price of the phone. I spoke to a CSR this morning and she said you can certainly pay the amount of the phone off in advance if you want your bill to reset to it's normal level.

The one thing that gets me about all these plans is the taxes and fees. What's the "final cost"?

On prepaid, I pay no taxes on top of the rate. But when I was on a plan, I remember taxes being a huge add-on. Like $10/line in various fees +10 percent sales tax. I think my last $30/month plan ended up costing me $44/month. I know this varies greatly by location and that we (WA state) have one of the highest rates of cell plan taxes around. Anyone have experience with the final cost on these plans?

This deal sucks if you don't call like crazy and everyone has a smart phone. The old value plan had better options. The tmobile advantage site still has the value plan, but it comes out to be exactly the same as this new plan. They also jacked up the line prices. The old value plan was 5, and now it is 10.

I'm on one of their Even More no contract plans now and my total before taxes/fees is 89.99. My total bill is always around $101.00. I'm thinking it might be similar for the $80/plan to add around $10 extra.

I see that it is forcing to buy the devices and the devices has some down payment and monthly charges up to $20. That means Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has $199 down payment and $20/month for 24 months. That is coming around $650 for the phone only.
Rather I choose to buy the phone offmarket and get the plan. Am I missing anything?

You still had a 2 year contract with a value plan before, so no it isn't exact.

Thanks & repped. Last time I dealt w/ TMO the reps couldn't tell me what the taxes were (?!?). Ideally they could give you an "out the door" price before you went with a service.
