Why is it, "non-standard"?
I'd be curious if they sent an adapter.
A lot of times they are included in these tablet / PC stick deals.
I've bought enough to know over the years.....
4:3 is secretly my vision of what the world's tablets should have made the standard.
They are perfect for reading and web-viewing, imo.
Every time I am happy that one of my devices has bluetooth, I end up not using it at all for anything.
standard based on my own standards...LOL but I hate to have to carry another plug when I can just carry 1 or 2 micro USB cords with me at all times.. heck I have 1 in the glove box, 1 in each back pack and so on... I rarely have to remember to bring one bc I got so many extras that I always have one around...
I do like the 4:3..ever since you posed those 8" resistive ones way back when.. perfect reading form factor!
bluetooth is overrated...but handy for wireless mouse/keyboard combo... thats about it.. i can live without it...
Surprising to see a Chinese tablet under SD Popular Deals.
I actually have an F9X which I reviewed here[youtube.com]. The retina display is the same LG panel used in iPad 3 and 4. While I'm in love with my F9X I recently returned mine for exchange due to 4 dead pixels. If you're not into cheap retina you might as well just get a refurb Nexus 7 for $189.
Also, RK3188 retinas (the newER generation, significantly better than the A31) are already on presell and the earliest release is 4 days from now.
Sorry for the noob question. Do I have to root to use the apps at Play Store? Can I just use it a simple reader for ebooks? I noticed it's Android Jelly Bean operating system. Just want to double check.
Can anyone comment on the display under the sun since I need to take it outdoor a lot. Thanks.

In the order they were asked:
1. No. (No root need to use Google Play Store apps)
2. Yes. (You can just use it as a simple e-reader. Check the video, the person uses it for Amazon Kindle books and also for eComics)
3. Yes, Android 4.1 JellyBean - the base build. Nothing funky has been added or taken away, this is nearly identical to how Google released it to the development community.
Where might I find some protection for this 8" device?
(Aside from the drug store)
In my experience with these deals, you're only way to make sure you're going to get something that is almost certain to fit is to buy whatever case they're hawking on their deal pages. (THIS - for $6.49[geekbuying.com])
Even then, you might get one a little iffy (I think this happened on one deal from forever ago), but you save yourself the headache of trying four different versions from every eBay and Amazon style you think might work.
Besides, it ships free, so might as well throw in whatever else you need.
excellent! really thanks for that. Do you also have any seller recommendation?
As far as PC Stick sellers, they would be the same (in my eyes) as the Android tablet sellers.
See the link in my signature and go with anything on that list you feel comfortable with.
Interesting...while $100 is almost 'just get it for the heck of it' money...I can't help but think perhaps it's smarter to hold out for a Nexus 7 refurb? I'm sure there would be more replacement parts/accessories available for that. Thanks for posting this though, something to consider at an insanely low price.
