I love how amazon is subtly trying to put everyone out of business and when they're the last ones around.. Prices go up and you won't be able to return anything as it won't fit in the Eco friendly box that disintegrated 72 hours from delivery date.
Lol, anyway. Maybe I'm a lil old fashioned. But, I must try out the thing before purchase.
I don't care about clothes because I only buy certain brands that I know my exact fit for. Same with shoes and hats and a few other items. But a bed? One which will be verily hard to repackage once the foam has fully inflated?..
Thanks so much for posting this! Was going to buy at Bedmart for lots more including tax and delivery. No tax for me, even though Amazon started charging tax on non food items in February. We got 2 Twin XL as we have side by side adjustable frame beds, equaling Cal King Size. The ones we have were $800 EACH, had a 20 year warranty, but started getting saggy after only 4 years. We've had them now for 6 so time for them to go! Even if these only last 3-4 years, still a great deal and much needed. Very happy and looking forward to giving them a try. Their return policy looks amazing so not worried.
We have a pull-out bed that is God-awfully uncomfortable. I'm tired of trying to use inflatable mattresses. Would a topper like this work? Can they be rolled up easily for storage? Can these be cut down to size? I'm looking for 60x72 (Queen is 60x78)
Have relatives that are plus-sized visiting soon ... do I just visit my local Costco and give this a whirl?
I got the queen 10" about 1 year 4 months ago when they introduced this and it was a little under $200. It's our everyday bed, and still feels the same as it did a year ago. I'm an all sides sleeper and prefer a firm mattress, and this works great for me in any position. You just need to be aware the mem foam will probably strike you as pretty firm on first impression if you're coming from a spring mattress. I liked it enough that I bought the queen 8" for the cabin for more than I paid for the 10". (Feels about the same to me, FWIW.) They will smell a bit for a few days, so if you're sensitive to that, you'll want to let it air in somewhere where it won't bother you for a few days to weeks (if you're SUPER sensitive). We slept on ours right away with minor annoyance.
Consumer reports just did a test recently, and I think their best buy was the costco novaform(sp?) mattress. It rated identically with the more expensive tempurpedic, and actually beat the sealy, simmons and serta more expensive competition. Note, those top brands are $1200-2000. Wow. They all rated fairly close together in any case, so to me that means you're simply paying for warranty/brand confidence.
The reading I did on these before buying convinced me the most important factor is the density and thickness of the top layer. 3" seems ideal, as does 4lb density. Tempurpedic uses 5lb I believe. The trade-off is higher density can feel unreasonably firm, but is also presumably more durable when all other quality factors being equal. This makes sense for tempurpedic, since their super long warranty is a defining feature. The novaform I think actually uses 3lb density, which might have given it a boost in the tests because of the more yielding feel. Hard to say if that will hurt it in the long run on durability. I think the 4lb is a good bet for straddling this line, and at this cost, I'll be able to replace in a couple of years with what will probably be improved technology and the knowledge in the reviews that will be forthcoming on these relatively new brands.
