Thread Details

Blizzard is offering a free week of World of Warcraft [battle.net] to idle accounts.

I wouldn't mind poking around a bit, it's been a while since I played WoW. Figured if I was interested, some else just might be too.

Oh, and the fine print:
Quote from Blizzard :
*Players who have been inactive for more than 30 days on 3/5/13 will receive 7 FREE days of game time.

I accepted the 7 day offer on an alternative account. When I logged into battle.net it had on the right side a 10 day trial for mop on the right side. I figure maybe wait till the 7 day and try the activation on that account.
"mop" = Mists of Pandaria

WoW sucks now. They suckered me in to the annual past last march and I barely played. BC was awesome and it got progressively worse from there.

Clearly this is just your opinion as over 9 1/2 million people still play this game...

I haven't played in over a year but I'll give it a try again for free, thanks OP.

Half their subscribers are probably in China at this point paying pennies on the dollar.

Wait, so this is just 7 free days, but no additional content. I'd go back if I got access to the new expansion for 7 days, but not if it's just the same content I quit a year ago.

I think for those of us who enjoyed 25 man raids, Cataclysm was really the end. I don't know how MoP since I stopped playing right after Raid Finder was implemented and essentially made it impossible for a mid-tier progression guild to find people willing to responsibly be there every week and with the commitment level necessary to succeed. It sucked.

I'll drop by to say hi to my guildies, if anything. Thanks OP

Nope, 9.5 million is western accounts. They never include the chinese market in the subscribers number.

And people, please don't threadcrap. Don't like the product - move on. There are a gazillion other MMOs out there, enjoy what you like and let others enjoy this game.

Yeah for some reason I thought this meant we'd get to check out the new content for a week, but it makes sense that they'd charge for expansions like always. Honestly, to me this isn't a great offer since I wouldn't be able to do anything in a week other than explore the same old places as always and look at my forgotten mounts.

I left this game just before BC, when our guild would have 2 40 man raids going at the same time with One/BWL on grind status, and I was one of the first few 8/8 T2 on Kel'Thuzad. Those were fun times. [not threadcraping, reminiscing on a once fun game]

Why did you pay for a full year if you weren't going to play? I don't see how they suckered you into that. You could have just bought Diablo 3 separately. I know 2 people who paid for a yearly sub and barely played, but it just seems silly to say they suckered you into it.

Also, around Dec 2012, they gave me 10 days of free game time with the MoP expansion so maybe they'll do that again for people who want to check out the new stuff without paying.
