Somewhat in the market for a nice watch, been searching but nothing too serious. It'll be my first watch, was considering a tag heuer a few months ago around $2500 but I passed on that. Name doesnt mean too much nor do I understand the ins outs of a watch.
Want nice watch, decent size, dress & casual and can take a beating

Currently considering the following:
citizen
calibre 2100
calibre 8700
perpetual calendar model,

movado 800 series

Tissot
prs 200

any input on these would be helpful,

Tried going to site yesterday evening, but got the malware warning and did not proceed.

Today, nighthawk seems to be sold and cannot add to cart, others are not as interesting...

Show me a watch with similar complexity and execution of the Citizen skyhawk in Seiko or most other manufacturers. Citizen by far makes better watches. The watches are time tested as well, as most people wear citizen on a regular basis.
Citizen is better known for quartz watches while Seiko has a massive foothold in the Japanese automatic and mechanica watch industry. On the other hand, Seiko was the driving force behind the quartz crisis/revolution and actually came out with the world's first production quartz watch and quartz chronograph.

Both Citizen and Seiko have several different subcategories, but if you are comparing the top to the top, Seiko has Citizen easily beat.

Many of the Grand Seiko watches can be compared to upper end Swiss watches (think Omega or Rolex).

None of these watches have a Factory warranty Jomashop deals in factory defects, they have a slight imperceptible defect from the factory, Thats why all the watches say 2 or 5 year Jomashop warranty (good luck trying to get them to honor it for that matter)

I would not buy from this site if these things were half the price. If you do see past the malware warning. Got to Walgreens get a Pre-Paid MAster Card or VISA, load the funds needed then make your purchase.
Why go through all that trouble, when almost all CC's these days allow you to create a temporary virtual cards right on their website?

Citizen's Eco-drives are probably the best-known solar models, but there are plenty of other manufacturers utilizing similar tech. I will concede that few have the same kind of track record. The only other one that springs to mind is Casio. Their Edifice and particularly their Oceanus lines are certainly as complex/advanced (and as expensive) as the best Citizen has to offer. And they've been around for years.

I definitely take exception to the statement that Citizen makes "by far" better watches. I am a Citizen fan (I own two), but they aren't at the same level with respect to auto movements. Once you get outside the Eco-drive tech, Seiko jumps out in front, and it isn't close. As has been mentioned, the Grand Seikos are super-premium watches, beyond Citizen's Campagnolas. Seiko has Spring Drive, Brightz, and plenty of other innovations that eclipse Citizen's.

Agree with both of these statements. Eco-drive is a solid technology and i own one. But across the wider range of watch styles and movements, Seiko wins hands-down for quality and value.

And yes, you will be unlikely to use the slide rule on the Nighthawk but it looks great.
Why wouldn't you be able to use the slide rule? This is one of the main reasons I would be buying this watch (slide rule function is great for quick currency conversion when traveling).

Point noted. I think I should have probably clarified more than passing a general statement. I think for quartz movement, and the minimal hassle watch that is very well executed at an affordable price point, citizen is hard to beat. At the same level of movement, citizen is probably better than seiko in terms of execution, complexity and pricepoint combined. Would it be alright to claim that?

Has anyone gotten a shipping confirmation? I placed my order on Monday and only received a order confirmation so far. I'm a little concerned since I placed my order during all the potential malware issues.
