Ordered 6 1/2 days ago for $39 a year. Awesome.

Anyone know how to get around the gmail, etc. login warning errors when using the proxy?

Here's a review:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2...808,00.asp

I've used them for 5-6 months and been happy with them.
Good to have a SDer comment.

But why does the reviewer (and another commenter on the review) say the upload speed increases? How does that even happen?

Shouldn't the upload speed to VPN server be the same as the ISP's upload bandwidth? On most residential service, that's pretty low. I don't see how VPN service could change your upload speed.

VPN can't increase your download or upload speed. The bottleneck is at your ISP. Probably an error or something.

someone always mentions cascading vpns but no one links any how to articles.

Anyways, some interesting points i would like to make.
1. They are based in US. So if some company subpenas them first you info, they have to abide.
2. Also take a look at vpngate
3. If you are really interested in VPNs then i suggest that do you do some research before buying. HERE [torrentfreak.com] is a good place to start

and what does that matter in regards to your initial claim??? it doesn't.

YOU, well "I" CAN daisy chain and stay 100% anon, sorry you can't, yet, 20 years ago we needed to understand how to remain anon, now we that did don't even bother much anymore because the scene is so lame. as you've pointed out
I don't get it ... If you don't daisy chain you won't be 100% anon because the VPN logs you, but how would daisy chaining help you ? Assuming all VPNs log, wouldn't it be the same, except the logs for multiple VPNs are required to get your original IP address ?

Torrentfreak actually recommend Private Internet Access along with one other last I checked. I'm at work now and can't confirm this though.

This is a lie. Stuff has to be logged. How do you think they comply with DMCA and child porn laws?
Quote from crspyjohn View Post :
VPN providers actually don't have to log anything, it just makes it more difficult to operate. They can't comply with DMCA because they do not host the content. They're basically a ISP provider.
Correct.

Does this use a proprietary VPN client? I'm thinking about using this for my media server, but want something that is (almost) completely hands off and doesn't require me to constantly login to the VPN service everytime I reboot my server for patches, etc.

Basically, I'm looking for something that loads automatically when Windows 7 Pro boots and doesn't need user interaction to make sure it's using the VPN versus open internet.

Otherwise, this is an awesome deal!

EDIT: Reading reviews of the service, it seems that it will do what I want it do with no issue. Sweet!

Correct.
I wasn't bashing them. You are correct that they did suggest them as a provider. If you read some of the comments you will realize that there is a general consensus US providers should be avoided. I believe this stemmed from the LULZSEC incident with hidemyass.

Anyways, current subscribers seem very please with their service and SOCKS5/proxy service is included in the package. Only thing bad with that is that SOCKS5 login information is in clear text.

As all SDers know, its best to research before making decisions and I hope that I may have helped a few.

There is a (hopefully rare) situation when using VPN *could* in fact increase the speed. This is if your ISP is throttling certain types of traffic (over some ports or by doing deep packet inspection). They can't do that when you connect over VPN since they couldn't see inside the VPN tunnel.

Not knowing what you're talking about = priceless

Hamachi has nothing to do with PIA. Open VPN is your own VPN, if you're looking to download Bittorrent files with your own hosted VPN at home enjoy getting your speed throttled and DMCA notices. And good luck accessing European-only streaming sites with either option you mentioned. This solves those problems, and at full speed.

Please don't threadcrap unless you understand what's being offered, your post is FUD. This is a GREAT deal on a solid service.
