No need to, just set your firewall to block uTorrent (or whatever) on private connections and ok on public. Set the VPN network as public, home network as private. The second the VPN disconnects it'll kill the torrent app connection and stop it from running off your regular IP.
Thanks for the advice!

Hello SlickDealers,

Thank you for the wonderful comments and questions. :-)

FYI, I have had their service in the past and I don't like it because their VPNs IPs are shared among the pool of users. This means that every secure site you visit, you will be flagged because other people have used the same IP to visit the site. On the good side, it is extremely easy to use and for the most part, I could connect to each of their gateways at full speed.

No VPN is truly anonymous because the IP you use to connect to the VPN is always logged.
We absolutely do not log as it is not required by US law. We use shared IPs as this maximizes anonymity to ensure that a user cannot be pinpointed to activity on an IP.

Unfortunately, you will need to signup for a new account in order to receive the benefits of this promotion. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Ordered 6 1/2 days ago for $39 a year. Awesome.

Anyone know how to get around the gmail, etc. login warning errors when using the proxy?
There will be Gmail login warnings as many users are sharing the same IP. This is an issue that will be shared amongst all VPN providers who utilize shared IPs. With that said, once you login, it should not prompt you for the remainder of your session.

Good to have a SDer comment.

But why does the reviewer (and another commenter on the review) say the upload speed increases? How does that even happen?

Shouldn't the upload speed to VPN server be the same as the ISP's upload bandwidth? On most residential service, that's pretty low. I don't see how VPN service could change your upload speed.
It's quite possible that your ISP has provided a cable modem which has some sort of capping mechanism limiting your upload speed by means of superficial limits rather than by any technical limitation. However, most likely the data streams which are capped are limited to that of the TCP streams. As such, UDP traffic may not be subject to these said data caps.

If this is occurring, of course, over TCP, then there could be other factors involved. For example, it's possible that the data compression (lzo, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemp...3Oberhumer) is great enough that a noticeable difference could exist, especially if the specific type of data being uploaded is highly able to be compressed.

In a really rough example, let's assume it is clear that in some compression algorithms the following 2 strings will be able to be compressed much differently:

ANV@#3iVNA(VN(N!GKLNVASKVNI@#NAVBLZJBOIHQ#%NPHQNMGRK NWIQH#PI(HQ

VS.

AAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBCCCC

In the above example, it's most likely probable that the ANV... string could be compressed a little bit, where as the ABC line could be compressed significantly into a tiny string. This is, once again, highly dependent upon the compression algorithm/technique employed within the given context, as there could, of course, be a compression algorithm in which this string is actually poorly compressed.

However, in this example, let's assume that ABC line could become "A`.8B`.18C`.4". That's pretty small and, when compared to uploading against the full "AAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBCCCC," in a much larger example, we could realistically see a 4x speed increase given the 4x difference in number of datas required to be transferred between the compressed and uncompressed examples.

These are just two possibilities as there could be other factors involved with the speed testing. Regardless, we do hope you are happy with our service and we will continue to do whatever it takes to strive for higher standards.

Any comment on their speeds? I have FIOS and am looking for an inexpensive one that isn't going to limit my speeds too horribly.
Please visit https://www.privateinternetaccess...es/network and give our speeds a try!

Does PIA include 2-port forwarding?
We currently provide port forwarding up to 1 port in select gateway regions. We allow three logins per account.

Interested but not quite familiar with VPNs Smilie If I am using a secure SSL to access to a newsnet server, I don't think I will have any need for VPN, isn't it? ISPs should not be able figure out the content? isn't it?
Technically, you will be fine if your connection is SSL enabled. With that said, your ISP will "know" that you connected to the Usenet server, but they will not know the content.

I'm interested in purchasing this and would like to use bitcoins to do it, but having never done anything with bitcoins before, with everything I'm reading, it looks like coinbase is the place to buy bitcoins. How can something that's linked to your bank account and done online really be anonymous? Is there a way to buy bitcoins quick without having to link your bank account? I'd like to purchase this service while the promotion lasts!
There are many ways today to purchase Bitcoins. The most anonymous way is to purchase Bitcoins with cash either with an OTC exchange (#Bitcoin-OTC (www.bitcoin-otc.com) on the Freenode (www.freenode.net) network) or through a service such as BitInstant.com.

In either case, you will need to setup a Bitcoin Wallet (generally best to have a personally hosted wallet, but there are online services available).

Please be sure to read and learn about Bitcoin carefully. You will also want to be sure that you have a secure encrypted backup for your Bitcoin wallet as well as ensure that you do not have any keyloggers or trojan/virus/backdoors installed on your computer.

Lastly, if you purchase through Coinbase or BitInstant, you can always use a Bitcoin Mixer/Anonymizer when you pay.

Will this service work to view local teams play home games on certain particular sports networks?
When you are traveling, you will be able to use any of our regional gateways to appear as if you are at your region.

is there a way i can install this on my router so that all my devices automatically are connected anonymously ?
Yes, if your router supports DD-WRT or Tomato then you can install it on your router and use the VPN directly from the router.

These companies are built on reputations for privacy. They wouldn't last long if there was any kind of risk of that, greater than what you accept from venturing on the internet in the first place.

I do have ATT universe and I get less than 2mbs all the time. I have OOMA as a VOIP, if I switch to this can I hook my OOMA to this ? Thanks for the info
I'm not sure, really. I've never used an OOMA. Does it hook into your computer, or is it a standalone device? If it's a standalone device, and it has the correct VPN/Proxy server options, then I would assume it could work. If it hooks into your computer, you could just run the PrivateInternetAccess program (they have their own application) on your computer, pick your exit point, and VOIP like normal.

Actually that's not entirely true.

BT Guardian and This company shown here do not log anything.
They are just playing with words. Do not log doesn't mean they don't monitor what's going on at their servers.

As someone pointed out from the VPN agreement, sure sounds like they are monitoring what's going on at their VPN servers at "real time" even without log. Unless you are using multiple level of IP redirect and encrypt your connection when passing through their server, otherwise they can still monitor you at real time. And can cancel your account with their ZERO TOLERANCE policy.

If I understand correctly, this is a US based company.

Hello SlickDealers,...

We allow three logins per account

Thanks for answering the questions. I actually have 4 devices I want to use VPN on, but never all at the same time. Is it possible to have all 4 devices setup to use VPN, just not simultaneously? How do you enforce the 3 device rule?

Just want to let everyone know: I just signed up and have Verizon Fios, my speeds pre VPN were 45 down and 35 up. Post VPN: 25 Down and 35 Up. Not bad for an extra bit of a security blanket.

Since all your internet activity is routed through the VPN, this is a possibility with any rogue VPN service, right?

I have heard that your information is secure as long as the website uses HTTPS.

Yes I think that's a fair assessment. That's why being a US resident I preferred a US-based company. You compromise a little additional privacy for a little more peace of mind, IMO.

looking for a vpn to watch big brother canada with, after researching i decided on this and i can confirm it's a good service.
it's not complicated to use at all, just install the driver/program and then launch it up and connect to a server.
you also get good speeds while using it which was my major concern.

at a good price (without the deal), i'm happy with the service so far.
maybe 1-2 more server places would've been nice instead of so many usa ones but it has the ones i need which is fine.

I think it's only enforced when you use more than 3 at a time. I have the program installed on 4 computers and haven't had an issue running from them but only have used 3 at a time.

I would jump on this if I could limit the VPN or proxy just to utorrent. But having my whole computer go through VPN when I'm at home isn't appealing to me, especially with reports of things such as gmail's warning messages.
