I have an HD20 that I bought maybe a year or so ago for around $850. I thought the $850 was a steal at the time and I still use it every day. It does an amazing job for a low-budget 1080p projector and I've been very happy with it.
If you guys have any questions about it, let me know and I'll try to answer as best as I can.
dude you are freaking awesome found a couple available one which is $429 but in-store only will try and snag that when I head back from vacation this weekend since it is right on my way. Found another I was able to order and pre pay for that is on my way as well. SO if I can snag the $429 one I can just cancel the other one.
Awesome! Glad you found some. $429 is a steal for this projector!
I have had this projector for about 2 years in my light controlled home theater and it has done a stunning job. I will admit that it may not be as absolutely great as other higher end projectors, but realistically when you project a 1080 image to a 10 foot screen, there is going to be a lack of sharpness in just about any projector due to pixel size.
I will admit that black levels are not amazing, however outside of sci-fi movies and maybe batman I don't really notice this. Overall this is a great and inexpensive way to get into the market of 1080 home theater projection and honestly aren't 95% of us on this site here to get the best bang for your buck?
I personally think it would be a challenge to find much under 1000 that would compare to this projector.
A few other quirks with this projector:
1) slow to acquire a signal when you switch between inputs
2) remote is blindingly bright blue
3) fan is noticible but not overly loud and I rarely notice it once I start a movie or game
4) as noted by several so far, limited placement positions due to no lens shift and limited zoom
Hope this helps some of you, but PM me with any other questions and I'll be happy to help. BTW over 1500 hours on my bulb and it's still looking great.
Just about to check out at the East Madison, WI location with the $429 open box (floor model) ANyone know how optoma is with warranty coverage on "open box" items? Been a while since I looked into it, but does squaretrade cover bulbs? 15 days to return it if I hit a snag.
Damn! That is an awesome price. Grab it and make sure the accessories are in the box still, if they will let you, try to verify the hours on the bulb too.
I just picked one up for $430. I plugged it in in store to check the lamp hours, but they were at 0. Honestly I wouldn't necessarily trust that number because the Optoma projector I have has a tendency to reset after being unplugged for a while. I had them look up the particular unit in their system, and according to their records, it had never left the store or been used as a plugged in demo model. Apparently just sitting there on the shelf.
