well, crap - no delivery to me in NJ. Be careful if you buy this by way of shipping it to a friend / relative in another zip (if it can't be shipped to your zip). Some jurisdictions consider air/pellet/bb guns the same as, and regulate them the same as firearms (which is asinine, imho). NJ being one of them. You'd have to go through the same procedure as registering a firearm to own one of these (legally).
If none of that applies to you, these things are a lot of fun for target shooting. If you're just planning to target shoot, look at airsoft pistols before you buy, they're not subject to gun regulations, ammo is cheap, and they're alot of fun too.
This has been the same design for the last 30 years. Is there a smaller/shorter version?
"I have a dream. We got a nightmare." "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan"."We're gonna work to lower your premiums by up to $2,500 per family." (WHERE?/WHEN?) "What is a low information voter?" "For the First Time in My Adult Lifetime, I’m NOT Really Proud of My Adopted Country”. I am not Rush'ed into judgement. If we don't do handout for stamps, the Post Office might still be in business!
“Can you use this for Self Defense if, lets say a robber breaks in your house at night ?”
Sure, but the barrel is a little short to swing it very fast and it's kinda light so it won't do him much damage even if you hit him. For this kind of self-defense, I'd hit him with a baseball bat before I hit him with this. -- Even a good broom handle would allow you to get some speed up depending on your swing.
Can you shoot plastic BB's with this? I have an annoying squirrel nearby that I want to piss off but since I'm in a condo, I don't want anything I can accidentally miss and break a car or neighbors window Would I be better off with one of those cheapo pistols from walmart?
I suppose it all comes down to whether or not you're hunting paper targets or critters. The energy delivered upon impact by the .22 would serve better to drop small game. For paper, it's irrelevant.
Possibly, but the FPS is slower. I know it's a heavier pellet, but isn't the FPS on the .22 around 450 to 500?
Get the .22 caliber version of this pistol. It packs a bigger punch. That being said, mine has been relegated to dust collection after buying a RWS/Diana 460 Magnum rifle for critter control.
I have both the .177 and .22 of the pistol and while yes, the 22 is less fps, it is much more devastating. The pellets are noticeably heavier, denser and larger, they don't deform as easily - you cant just squeeze it like a .177.
the .22 shreds through 1" solid piece hardened cardboard like butter at 20 yards (havent tested longer ranges). You should have no problem killing a man if you hit him in the throat or certain parts of the face if you pump the .22 to full capacity (10 pumps). It is actually a rather dangerous item and I was surprised it was available to order online without problems. The .22 is made for small game hunting and garden pest control (bunnies!). The .177 is really just for target practice.
Having said that, I would never use *any* airgun in self defense as its too slow to reload.
