Did u use as is OR did u stain/seal them before using.
You don't want to stain or seal them if you are going to grow veggies in them (as I do) because that stuff can seep into your food. That is why if you build your own, you want to use redwood or cedar. Both are naturally insect and rot resistant. As far as this kit, I believe they are cedar and I just pulled them out of the box and put them together.
Edit: let me back up a little. They look great for functionality, but unsealed wood is going to look like unsealed wood after three summers even if it still strong. If you have an impeccably beautiful back yard, these won't work for you. You are better building a raised bed out of rock of some sort.
If you plan to grow flowers or something, then that is a different story. I guess it doesn't matter too much if the flower roots start sucking up the weather sealer.
