Don't like Windows 8 but can't downgrade to Windows 7 (too much trouble,or for any reason)?

Customization Instructions:

-How to make Windows 8 look like Windows 7 (CNET UK) http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/softwar...-50009546/ (if link doesn't work, google this title).

-Disable Aero snap in Windows 8 (YouTube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwX2htl25aY (in desktop, if you accidentally drag your programs towards any edge, it'll snap to that ridiculous 1/3 and 2/3 fullscreen view).

Received the "used" laptop yesterday, looks brand new, manufactured in Nov 2012. Here is what I did to install and activate windows 8, hopefully this will help out fellow SDers.

Download and installed MSDN Windows 8 release (the license is for Windows 8 only, not pro, not enterprise, not RTM) via FTP off someone's server, via google search. Confirm that the iso is untouched by comparing check sum and SHA-1 of the ISO and the SHA-1 posted on MSDN website.Windows 8 read the serial keys from bios during installation but had problem with auto-activating. So I downloaded Belarc Advisor and retrieved the serial number from Bios (turn out that I don't need to, well its a good reference anyways), give MS activition a phone call, and activate it successfully via phone.

Next, installed all critical windows updates, then download Samsungs Software Update tool, follow instructions to flush bios with latest firmware, install video and other hardware drivers.

Ping me if you have a quick question. All in all decent laptop with windows experience score of 5.6. Nowhere close to my other samsung laptop, i7 with SSD Smilie but its perfect for my folks. Cheers,

I got a couple of PMs on the iso, since it is not my FTP server, I don't want to put a direct link out of respect to the owner. Please google "en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso" and download the ISO. Make sure that you verify SHA-1 with the following SHA-1. You can download MD5 & SHA-1 Checksum Utility via download.com
SHA1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4

A lot of these drivers can also be found on http://catalog.update.microsoft.com

AMD Radeon HD 7520G graphics [microsoft.com]
Atheros AR9485WB [microsoft.com]

If you're installing Win7, you'll need AMD's chipset drivers:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudown...ows.aspx#2

This will take care of nearly all of the yellow icons on the device manager - including usb3.0, display...

And this one for the card reader: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/c...10800a.exe

I bought 6 samsung laptops in the same family line when cowboom had them on sale. Four out of the six have already had the center post of the power jack broken. Main problem, is that it is directly soldered to the board at 7 points and requires a complete disassembly to repair.

Not good to hear. I assumed that the reason Cowboom has so many of these was because people did not like Windows 8 and returned them. It's always a bit of risk buying from Cowboom, but they have a good return policy and will pay for return shipping. Did you return the laptops or repair them?

My parents are looking for a new laptop and the price is right. OP said Windows 8 keys are in bios and a quick google search shows that I can download Windows 8 ISO off MS. I am going to take a chance and jumped in, Worst case scenario, I may to test out their return policy Smilie Note that I saw a couple of post on other forums (google it) that it may be difficult to activate windows 7 on this laptop.

In the process of repairing them right now. Pain to work with as a tiny resistor sits right behind it on the board and crammed next to the Ethernet port.

Since you've opened up your laptops already, does it look like the CPU is easy to upgrade? I know that Lenovos with A6-440M are pretty easy to upgrade to an A8 or A10, I was hoping that it would be the same case with this laptop.

There isn't a way for anyone else to scan other products yet but I'm able to do it semi-manually.

** Use at your own risk, cowify is still in alpha stage.

Thanks for the rep. Smilie
The other site was banned cause it allowed people to directly add it to the cart. Cowify doesn't do that so it shouldn't be a problem with slickdeals (dealsbyte wasn't banned anyway).
