UPDATE 4/5/2013: Price is back down to $220 and Refurbished is now $230

"NEW CUSTOMERS": Save an extra $10 with coupon code CowBoom10

PLEASE NOTE: In previous deal thread (at $250), some people mention that there is no OS license sticker, even though Cowboom's listing say the OS license sticker is included. Cowboom has a pretty good return policy if that is the case.

price has dropped back to $220 and now refurbs are on sale for $230
Is refurb always better than pre-owned at cowboom?

I am just curious where you can download a windows 8 iso. I bought a computer back in December from cowboom with windows 8 and I ended up having to buy a recovery disc for it from hp for like 17 bucks.

Darn, I just bought one yesterday when it was $239. Now I don't know if cowboom will do a price match.

I don't think they price match, I would call them to see. If they won't price match, ask if they can cancel your order (if it hasn't shipped) and you can then reorder with the lower price.

They'll most likely be willing to refund you the difference. Just tell them outright that you want to keep the laptop and ask if they'll refund you the difference. (that's what I normally do and they're pretty cool about it.)

If you by any chance get rejected by the first CS rep that you chat with, try another one.

Received the "used" laptop yesterday, looks brand new, manufactured in Nov 2012. Here is what I did to install and activate windows 8, hopefully this will help out fellow SDers.

Download and installed MSDN Windows 8 release (the license is for Windows 8 only, not pro, not enterprise, not RTM) via FTP off someone's server, via google search. Confirm that the iso is untouched by comparing check sum and SHA-1 of the ISO and the SHA-1 posted on MSDN website.Windows 8 read the serial keys from bios during installation but had problem with auto-activating. So I downloaded Belarc Advisor and retrieved the serial number from Bios (turn out that I don't need to, well its a good reference anyways), give MS activition a phone call, and activate it successfully via phone.

Next, installed all critical windows updates, then download Samsungs Software Update tool, follow instructions to flush bios with latest firmware, install video and other hardware drivers.

Ping me if you have a quick question. All in all decent laptop with windows experience score of 5.6. Nowhere close to my other samsung laptop, i7 with SSD Smilie but its perfect for my folks. Cheers,

I got a couple of PMs on the iso, since it is not my FTP server, I don't want to put a direct link out of respect to the owner. Please google "en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso" and download the ISO. Make sure that you verify SHA-1 with the following SHA-1. You can download MD5 & SHA-1 Checksum Utility via download.com
SHA1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4

The price went up. Still 400+ in stock (almost all 6 and 7) so there's a chance that the price might go back down.
How do you guys determine stock?

What happened to the key when you flashed the BIOS? BTW, maybe it was already used one time use key, that why it has been straggling to activate over the internet?

It wasn't an actual stock count, just a really low estimate. There were actually more than 500 in stock when I first posted this (there were 55 pages of pre-owned laptops and there 11 laptops listed per a page).

Right now there are about 40 pages left, so there are still more than 400 left in stock. I wonder if the price would go even lower?

Hi,

I ordered and received one. Found HD was completely wiped clean by CowBoom including the Recovery Partition. Appears that only fix is to send unit to Samsung for restoring partitions or to do it myself but I would have to then also purchase the OS to install. What a bunch of crap.

Anyone else have this problem?

I am getting ready to send computer back to CowBoom and ordering one of their Refurb units which has the OS installed.

Really liked the computer. Anyone know of a quick fix?

Thanks.
