Info from 1 review...

Other Thoughts: The water tray is shallow and doesn't hold very much, and the auto evaporation process can't always keep up. Fortunately, the unit automatically shuts off when the tray is full, so it won't overflow. Be aware, if the unit isn't sitting level it could spill before triggering the shut-off sensor.

I raised mine up and removed the drain cap/plug(2 parts) so it could drain continuously into a bucket. It pulled about a gallon and a half out of the air in one night. Before doing that it had filled the tray and shut down twice, each after about 30 minutes of operation.

I'd have liked that, but you'll pay 2x this price even for refurbs on sale, and 400-500 for a new one thats super quiet and has good reviews.

Not thrilled with the practically non existent warranty, but I'll roll the dice a little...had I noticed the 30 day non-warranty, I might have bought the $20 one year warranty at the same time.

it summer bro there will always be a sales they do want to get rid of it probably pay 100 more but is okay if this was a super great deal it will be gone already

In AZ, I would not worry about the water not evaporating as some of the reviewers mentioned was a problem.
This is highly applicable since we all live in AZ.

I've been looking quite hard and haven't ever seen a portable AC unit of any kind cheaper than about twice this price. And that was for a floor model at sams club at the end of the summer, and it had a dent in it.

Had I seen the 30 day warranty before buying, I'd probably have skipped it. But if it runs for one summer it'll save me more than I paid for it. Crossing my fingers...

Got mine today. One of the two straps on the box was gone and the tape on top was almost ripped off due to the ups guy carrying it from there. But no shipping damage.

Unboxing was easy, unit appears to be and smells new, plugged it in and it fired up with no problems. Plenty of cool air out the front and warm air out the back. After hearing about noise complaints I was surprised at how quiet it is. Little rumble when the compressor cycles on, like a little cube fridge, but not really loud enough to wake you up unless you're a very light sleeper. Almost nothing when the compressor cycles off. No rattles, clunks, pieces of flying broken plastic, or any other immediate problems.

It'll be a few days before I get weather over 70 degrees, but Wednesday is supposed to hit 81, and I'll try it on for at least 4 hours just to give it a break in and make sure anything iffy breaks off before the 30 day warranty expires.

Very, very pleasantly surprised at how good it looks and how quiet it is. I was a bit worried about shipping damage because that was a regular complaint. These arent stuck in a box with just a little foam in between the box and the air conditioner as was reported in some negative reviews, it was in a regular strapped suspension box with no foam at all, but no damage of any kind.

DEFINITELY going to beat the crap out of this for a couple of days. The warranty is even more useless than I thought. You have to pack it up and ship it to them insured at your own cost.

With all the negative reviews and it being a refurbished unit with only 30 days warranty, I just didn't have the courage to jump in. I do hope this one lasts more than one season for you, because that's a lot of money to spend on A/C that has expectancy for a single season. If it fails within 3-5 years, it would be a terrible investment, IMO.

Yeah, that starts sounding good by the middle of august. But the good news is that property is relatively cheap here, winters are extremely mild, we have lots and lots of lakes and rivers to play in, and San Francisco, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe and so forth are all just a little drive away. But as its a bit of a rural area, utilities are expensive. My electric bill goes north of $400 pretty quick for ~3-5 months, and thats with a recent decently efficient (16seer) central air conditioner. We have tiered rates, so once you get by my average low end usage which is in the tier 1/2 area, your bill quickly jumps from $50-75 I see when not cooling. During the hot months, I generally fly right through tier 3 and into tier 4, where the rates are 35c-45c/KWh. Water is expensive here too, hitting $400-500 for regular home use and watering a half acre of landscaping.

So it'd be nice if I can leverage this to cool just the room I'm in and see how much I can knock off the bill. If its successful for even a month or two, I might get an ROI, then if the thing dies and if its been working out, I'll lay out more money for a better unit from costco and take it back if it breaks. But I hope it lasts a couple of years, it'd save me a grand or more if I can get that much out of it.

Interesting observation I made on the unit today. A lot of bad reviews on newegg talk about the unit being busted up in shipping because it was just in a box with a thin layer of foam. As I mentioned, this was shipped to me in a good suspension box, which is one of those that has a thick cardboard top and bottom, a wrap around box and a couple of straps to hold it together. You cut the straps, the box slides off the top and you have the a/c unit with the cardboard top and bottom on it. No foam whatsoever, not even a little chunk of it.

But I've found about 25 little specs of foam stuck to the unit here and there, inside and out.

So this must have been a unit that they shipped in the old packaging, it got smashed up, and when they sent it back to refurbish it they packed it differently...but there are still some tiny specs of foam from the original shipping/return process.

Nice because it looks new and probably was never used. Sure looks that way and it has that 'new air conditioner smell'.

Which barcode is the UPC on the box? (for the rebate of course)

Also,

Got mine 2 days ago. Seems to be fine. One thing I noticed was an odd smell coming from the box. Almost like the inside of a chain smokers home but with something sweet mixed in. But not quite.

Anyone get this?
