I got this unit recently and found out that the current batch of Kindle HDs have a serious problem with the displays. Color calibration is off and everything has a yellow tint or technically the color temperature is too low ("warm"). White backgrounds look yellow and yellows look even more yellow. It affects all colors and so you will not get accurate color rendering of media. It is most noticeable when held next to any other tablet Android or iPads.
The good news is Amazon will keep sending replacement units no questions asked but bad news is that people have found the replacements aren't any better.
There are two workarounds for this. One is to burn-in the screen with a white background overnight with screen saver off. I did this and helps somewhat but doesn't fully solve the problem. It is still yellow tinted. The other work around is to get an app from Google play store and side load it into the Kindle and use the app to adjust color balance which appears to help.
