for me, im finding the wifi remote not very valuable since i have a mobile phone and the app. i understand about the lack of warranty which is the risk you take on the price. these cameras appear to be solid tho....
^just saw that warranty add $15. i still would not have added warranty; if camera arrives defective, i will return it for refund/replacement....so says ebay/paypal/discover card. good reviews from this merchant tho. keeeping my fingers crossed.
Jumped on this the last time around however u/teaberry got it right, you're missing a lot for the "savings" you get.
The battery being non-OEM isn't a concern for me (nor the charger being non-OEM since the retail package doesn't even come with a separate charger).
Not having the regular waterproof case is a pain though. The camera isn't that useful without one and a spare case is $50 which eats into any sort of savings you'd expect.
Also no mounts, no remote, etc - means that you should have a fairly specific need for just a sole camera. Not exactly a thumbs up deal but not a thumbs down either as I can imagine a few scenarios where someone just needs a spare camera body.
EDIT: Correction on my part, one making this thumbs up worthy in my opinion. I personally was able to get the GoPro Hero Black Edition for much less than $399.99, with a free 32GB microSD card to boot. I was originally considering that in my original review. However, getting $150 off retail for the camera alone is actually a VERY good deal. You are going to need the waterproof housing and some mounts, but I honestly don't even use the remote at all. Not that it isn't useful, but I haven't had a need for it yet, especially with the GoPro App that essentially has the same features of it.
Still, I would have jumped at $200, or $250 if the housing and some mounts were included. They can keep the remote.
ORIGINAL POST: Owner of this since the month of release. For this price, it should at least come with the waterproof case as well. Too many pieces that you're going to need sooner or later for this to be a good deal for most, even if you already have one. The exception might be for those wanting a spare camera for a 3D Hero build, but even then I'd go ahead and pay the $50 more for the full package.
As is, this camera package is little more than an overpriced point and shoot missing out on a lot of its potential. No thumbs down from me though, this is probably a good deal for the right person.
