Wondering if these are comparable to ATH-M50. Clearly the Audio-Technica ATH-A900X is more expensive but based on price/performance, which should I get? I don't mind paying the extra $20 for the Audio-Technica ATH-A900X if it is better than the ATH-M50. Thoughts anyone?
The A900X has a larger soundstage and better overall SQ. It's also a lot more comfortable though you may need to use a rubber band between the wings depending on the size of your head for a tighter fit with the A900X. Besides price, the only area I can think of that the M50 wins is portability.

At only $20 more than the M50 there is no reason to get the M50 unless portability is a must, otherwise A900x wins in pretty much every other area hands down.

I had the same exact problem. "Mismatched drivers." For the most part the left side was weaker but when playing a full sweep [audiocheck.net] the left side was louder at certain frequencies. Unfortunately for me I asked for an exchange instead of a refund, and the new ones are supposed to arrive today Mad

edit - the left side also failed the bass shaker test, but the right side aced it.
Ya, that was the frustrating part. At some freqs, the left side seemed OK... Thanks for the link to the audio tests - definitely going to run them when my new ATs arrive. Rep'd

care to elaborate on the 'bass shaker test'? I didn't see anything like that on the site you linked to.

In for one!!! Perfect use for my 25 ebay bucks! Thanks, I'm wondering how these will compare with my SR80i's from Grado that I have right now.

It's under the "Quality" section. You have to turn the volume way up. For me the left side would begin to buzz and rattle at even moderate volume levels. The right side didn't have any problems at all even at maximum volume.

Ohh, I see it now. Thanks! I just made my ears bleed with the high frequency test haha.

i got these the last time they hit $150. for $130 it's a no brainer. they sound great with my sound blaster z. bass isn't overwhelming, high's are decent, but mids are slightly recessed. however, they are still the best headphones i've ever owned, and they have sounded better everytime i use them.

also, i experience 0 hiss sound with them. no matter how loud i turn them up.

I was reasonably happy with them @ 165. They are kind of big for my small head and I'm still up in the air to return them. I love my hd555s and they are very comfortable in comparison

Man, I have sooooo many headphones now! Just bought the Sennheiser HD439 on clearance at Best Buy for $50 last night. Have the M50's, HD280's, HD555's, Sony MDR-V6, HD428...I think I have around 15 headphones now! What is wrong with me?! I don't need these!! Must resist!!

How do these compare with the A900? Are the A900x's some sort of watered down version?

Crazy awesome deal. One of the better soundstages you can get in a set of closed-back headphones. This means they are good for gaming and 3D sound/positioning. They will also have better bass than open back sets, as well as sealing in sound/keeping out sound.

One of the best headphone deals I've seen on this site for a legit $100+ pair that is actually worth the money.

AD700s will still have a slightly larger soundstage because they are open back, but the 900x will be better in pretty much every other way. Closed back headphones can get sweaty, though, so be careful if you wear them in hot environments.

The bass is improved and the pads are better but the fit is looser (can be remedied with a rubber band / tie between the two wings)

If I have the HD555 now, are these worth the upgrade. I know they're a different class, but $129 better?
