Thread Details

This is a great price on one of the best Blu-ray players out there. This is a "Universal-Disc" player, so it plays DVD-Audio & SACD in addition to the obvious ones. No brainer...EEK!

This is for brand-new, non-refurbished. Price is only good in store. The web site link below will list the full price. Rest assured it is $199.98 in-store.

Looked up reviews which are quite good. A multi-region player (which I can use). I may stop by a Best Buy store and check it out.

Can anyone verify that it is at other Best buys for this price?

Went to Best Buy (magnolia section) and can confirm that was the price, I bought one.

They had the others priced at $399. He didn't at first know of the cheaper price and if any in stock -
I had to tell him. I also asked why, cheaper then the 5X and other model? He didn't know.

Played Avatar for a check, excellent. Played Dexter (DVD) - results were also excellent - DV?D really looked Blu-ray. Sound quality is excellent (just the HDMI) - will try out the other since it is recommended.

I really am trying to figure out why it is on sale (at this price).

**Trying to change the region coding 1 and play a region 2 DVD **
Problem, appears will only play DVD's (& blu-rays I assume) that are coded "all", and is also hardcoded for "1". According to one comment, a change on the circuit board is the only way. Very bad advertising.
**Further explaination on my comment. Going into the menu and changing the country code will not work on certain region 2
DVDs, unless they are also coded region "0". I attempted that, changing to U.K. for a region 2 DVD. Still not allowed.

Yes it does.

The real experience is in 3D

3D takes a beautifully mastered audio and visual image then surrounds you in emotion, story, and adventure. The BDP-62FD offers pristine 1080p picture as well as 3D video output with the latest HDMI® spec, allowing for passage of the high data transfer rate required by the Blu-ray 3D format. True to Pioneer’s history and passion for audio, the BDP-62FD’s Pioneer-exclusive technologies also improve the audio experience, a critical component to completing a fully immersive 3D experience.

In for one.

Anyone got a receipt scan of this so if it's not $199 I can have them price-match at the Best Buy?

I just picked one up at Best Buy in Secaucus, NJ. It was tagged as $399.99, so I walked up to the counter and asked the guy to check out a price on the BDP-62FD for me.
He said $199.98, Thumbsup, receipt below.

Thanks for posting this. I bought one today for $216 after tax. This machine really pairs up well with the SC-1522 from the Costco deal that I got in on earlier in the week.

Listening to multichannel SACD with PQLS is just excellent!

You won't get a DVD-Audio, SACD, and Bluray player in one unit like this anywhere around this price. The quartz lock on all channels with a compatible Pio receiver too..........just great.

$500 for an OPPO will get you anaolg out, but it's really not needed at this point IMO. I still have analog receivers and players for multichannel but this 62 and 1522 is sounding mighty phenomenal.

Why is this so expensive? I'm with the other guy who mentioned the PS3. Can't see how any blu-ray player alone is worth 200 bones. I just recently bought a blu-ray player for $68 bucks that plays everything off USB and has wifi built in with Netlfix, Pandora etc. built in.

Well for one thing, the PS3 won't play DVD-Audio discs. There are few BD players that contain SACD multichannel, DVD-Audio, and Bluray. The few that do are well above $200. Not to mention the quartz lock I mentioned above that works well with compatible Pio receivers. This machine is more geared toward an audiophile music listener, rather than a media machine like a Sony.

I have a Sony BDP-S590 and it's great for what it is, but for multichannel high resolution audio, it's very hard to beat the price of this 62 IMO.
