Thread Details

This is a great price on one of the best Blu-ray players out there. This is a "Universal-Disc" player, so it plays DVD-Audio & SACD in addition to the obvious ones. No brainer...EEK!

This is for brand-new, non-refurbished. Price is only good in store. The web site link below will list the full price. Rest assured it is $199.98 in-store.

Can anyone tell me if this is worth buying if I already own a PS3?
Probably not unless you plan on using DVD-Audio which is pretty much a dead format. I have many DVD-A discs though so it was great bargain for me.

Well for one thing, the PS3 won't play DVD-Audio discs. There are few BD players that contain SACD multichannel, DVD-Audio, and Bluray. The few that do are well above $200. Not to mention the quartz lock I mentioned above that works well with compatible Pio receivers. This machine is more geared toward an audiophile music listener, rather than a media machine like a Sony.

I have a Sony BDP-S590 and it's great for what it is, but for multichannel high resolution audio, it's very hard to beat the price of this 62 IMO.
I guess another reason I'm glad I'm not an audiophile. lollaugh out loud

yes, it is a very spendy hobby, but if you love audio, like I do, it's well worth it

I just saw your sig........seems like you have some pretty great gear for a non-audiophile!

I do love audio, but I'm tight with the money I spend on it. I could never pay $200 for a blu ray player that doesn't even have wi-fi built in.OMG

Why wouldnt someone pay $50 more and get the PS3?
1) It's $50 cheaper.

2) It plays DVD-audio and SACD discs.

3) 2 HDMI outouts.

4) It's not a PS3.

I have pioneer elite TVs, receivers and bluray players. I have had it with my disc players and switched to lower priced Sony players because they actually work. The pioneer players lock up all the time and these are the units prior to letting sharp making them for pioneer to save money. The sharp units are total crap and pioneer has fallen to new lows. Pioneer needs to fire half the execs and start over.

I'll wait till they hit $100 then clean um out, like the 52's not long ago Smilie .... Not bad if you need 1 now though, this isn't slick enough...or maybe I'll try to use the current price as leverage to get an open box for about $150- $160 lol

Have you ever tried Powerline adapters? I have one on an outlet with my home theater setup. The Cat 6 from the adapter feeds a switch and the switch is routed with Cat 6 to my Panny TV, Sony BDP-S590, and now Pio BDP-62FD.

The other adapter is near my router and plugs directly into it. Rock solid connection that never skips a beat.

A DD-WRT or Tomato capable router configured as a bridge (I've seen a few around here for ~$20) works great too and can feed multiple devices just like the Powerline. The range and stability is a lot better than the built in wireless too. I tend not to have a need for built in wireless.

THE PQLS function would be a nice benefit to new owners of the costco 1522...
