any issue with using a blue rhino labeled tank to exchange for an amerigas? tank is pretty crusty looking, now

I love getting shortchanged every time I do a tank exchange
Most places have put up signs now stating that your only getting 15lb in your 20lb tank.

I bet they will start putting in 12lb next....

No...Just rip the label off...

Amerigas is preferable because Blue Rhino can't be refilled without a special adapter... Amerigas tanks can be refilled if needed without a problem.

W are you guys getting this $25-$30 exchange rate? At my walmart the cost is $17.82 to exchange. Add this $3 coupon, plus the $3 MIR and you are looking at less than $12 to exchange. which is CHEAPER than the cost to refill. Not to mention the convenience of just picking up a fresh tank without having to wait for someone to fill it up.

Here is a link showing the $17.82 price:

Blue Rhino and Amerigas are different companies. Do some Walmarts carry different vendors?

Bummer for me...app is blocked at work and won't open on mobile. Any other clever way to get the PDF?

Rebate is ONE ONLY. Not worth my time and effort and stamp.

People seem to forget the hidden cost of gas and postage. MIR may be $3 but postage takes up 50 cents and gas another buck. You end up saving $1.50 assuming you get your bate back.

I'm not sure either because I just exchanged one of my Blue Rhino tanks at Lowe's and bought a Soft Drink for less than ~$18.

Unless you live next door to a refiiling station, you'd still have to drive to get a refill - so driving gas is a non-factor

I really wish I gave this more thought. I've probably been getting ripped off for a while. I should have picked up a nice empty tank from Costco and hit up the Ace Hardware around the corner of my house. I just never bothered to research where I could fill it up and figured it wasn't much more than just doing an exchange.

Sadly the first tank I bought from AmeriGas was brand new. Every tank I've exchanged since has rust and even the valves are quite oxidized.

GASOLINE? for a MIR? don't you have a mailbox by your house to place a letter? and stamps are .46, not .50.

Just checked with my wife who does our shipping there, and the refills at Costco are slightly over $11. Know this doesn't help everyone, but you don't have to do the rebate AND you don't have to be worried about being short-changed. We have two tanks and just switched ours out - still a good OP because if we didn't have two we might just do a local swap as it's an extra 16 miles round trip unless we do it with our regular shopping. We've had two tanks for three years, and this year the savings of swap versus refill will have paid for the second tank.

My costco doesn't do that...they only sell brand new empties.

I go to Home Depot just down the hill from me for a tank exchange. Prices vary regionally....I pay $17.82.

My Costco does refills. They have been anywhere between $9.99 and about $12 over the last couple years. Its $10.45 for a refill right now. Cant beat it.

At least at our Costco, which is around 5-8 years old, I don't remember exactly, the propane refill is at the top curve of the 180 degree turn you make past the tire installation bays to the gasoline pumps. I just asked my wife they either have someone there, or you push a buzzer to get someone out there, you get it filled and they give you a slip that you give to the cashier inside when checking out. It's quick, easy, and painless.

I heard that the exchange tanks are a rip off as they only fill them 3/4 for safety reasons but charge for a full tank prices. Better to bring it down to U-Haul and pay per gallon price.Wink
