Dollartree sells something very similar to this, I got a bunch to install around my windows. Also activated when the magnet moves away from the sensor. You can buy in store for $1 or online with minimal of 4.

They use power always. How else is it going to detect when the magnet moves?
4-6 months seems short.
They use NO current at all until the magnet is moved away from the sensor and the switch then completes the circuit. Do you not understand what a magnet does? Secondly if you don't understand something as simple as that you actually post it in a public forum so that everyone knows you don't know what you are talking about? Never ceases to amaze me the number of people willing to spread misinformation.
Gotta run and go replace the batteries for the magnets on my kitchen cabinet doors.
If they use no current, why do the batteries only last 6 months? Must be using something.
Then you must have some real crap batteries that have no shelf life. I have some of these things in use and some in a drawer that are 5 years old and the batteries are still good on them. You also just proved again that you have no idea what you are talking about.
It is impossible for these things to draw current until the circuit is made, the circuit is not made until the magnet is moved away from the sensor. It is as simple of a circuit as a flash light and if you have crap batteries in your flash light they will go dead from poor shelf life even without being used.
Do yourself a favor and educate yourself and take one apart you will see that the circuit is not made until the magnet moves away from the circuit. It may cost you a dollar and the loss of the sensor but the education you will receive will be priceless!
I dont have these junk alarms. I have a real alarm system. The CR123 batteries last over 8 years.
The manufacturer says 4-6 months.
Do yourself a favor and get a clue. These must use some power all the time. If they didn't, batteries would last for years.
Done with this pointless thread.
You were actually done before you typed the first word.
Do your lights in your home draw current when they are turned off if the switch to them is turned off? Same principle, the switch on the alarms are turned off until the switch turns them on, opening the window moves the magnet out of the way and then the circuit is made and the alarm sounds. That is the only time current is drawn from the battery. You know you are wrong so just admit it.
I don't mind that you don't know whats going on but when you start trying to tell other people wrong information when you don't have a clue that bothers me.
If you choose to be ignorant the rest of your life then great but keep your ignorance to yourself.
