I am paying $54.99 after taxes in CA. I initially signed up for $29.99 before tax, but that PROMO ended so I called and they offered me $54.99 after taxes with a free modem lease
Try speaking with retentions, or just tell the general customer service rep you want to cancel and they will transfer you to them. That was the only way I was able to get on the $39.99 plan when they were going to up my bill at the end of the $29.99 promotion.
There are only two speeds now for Charter in Michigan (I believe it is company wide, but not totally sure.) Charter has 30meg and 100meg. This summer when Charter goes all digital the 30 meg will be bumped up to 60 meg for free. Charter does not offer slower speeds IMO because of the investment into the wiring, outside plant, equipment, etc. Charter eliminated basic cable also because they were not making any money on it. Remember it is a business and there are employees to pay, fees to pay to the city, fees to pay to rent to poles from (usually) the power company, etc.
Recently Charter got rid of "promos" and went to a basic start rate for everyone then it raises $10-$20 at your 1 year and the same at your 2 year, then stays there without a contract or agreement. If you have any Charter specific questions I know an inside source that I might be able to get some questions answered.
Corporate number was closed today so I called the general customer service line
Asked for retentions at the automatic prompt, surprised it understood me but I guess it is 2014
Complained about my current rate of $55, pointed out the $40 offer for new customers
Best they could offer was $45
Threatened to switch to AT&T
They wouldn't budge.
Oh well, $45 for 100Mbs line isn't bad compared to what I use to get for service in the bay area.
It's listed in post #44, but they did do a customer service overhaul where they supposedly moved customer service back to the US. The corporate phone number leads to customer service, but I'm not sure if it is the Executive customer service team anymore. I had luck with my last 2 year deal, but it isn't as easy anymore.
I'm in WI and have the 30Mbps package. I call every year and threaten to go back to 6Mbps DSL. After some back and forth I always get a 1 year promotion rate of $39.99. It takes some hoops, but it's worth it for a 20min call. Chat would be easier, I'll try that next year.
I can't get 30Mbps consistently anyway with our local Charter, so going back to consistent 5Mbps on DSL for a year would be suffer-able. Anyone had any success getting credit for loss of service? We've been dealing with slow speeds since January. Peak load times, I'm lucky to get 3Mbps. Our DSL was consistently over 3Mbps, typically 5, whereas Charter is 3 from 3pm to 10:30pm.
Now if somebody had a tip on how to get them to up the node count in my city...
