UPDATE:
Live again with new coupon code SLICKDEALY500

Lenovo had another price drop on the Y500 Laptop. Use the Barnes and Noble Gold affiliate website below and save $30 over the standard Lenovo website. You must log in or create an account for the affiliate pricing.

deal [lenovo.com]

Once logged in navigate to the Y500 page. Second selection should be for the IdeaPad Y500 Laptop - 59371972. You could choose a different configuration but this one is the best value. Direct link:

http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrar...e=59371972

Current promotional pricing using IDEADOORBUSTER code is $869. Through the above link it will be $839. This includes the GeForece GT750M and the 16GB SSD drive which acts as a cache (OS is not saved on it).

Yesterday the price for this was $899 without the 16GB SSD. The last deal on this was $799 for the model with the GT650M graphics card. The GT750M is superior.

This is actually something that can be used for fairly heavy gaming at 1080p. It's somewhat faster than a 650m (see http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVID...887.0.html), and the UltraBay supports a second GPU for SLI (~$230 for the GPU from Lenovo, and ~$65 for a bigger PSU from ebay). Currently only the 650m add-in card is available (see http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVID...953.0.html), but if/when Lenovo releases a 750m add-in, it should exceed the performance of the 650m SLI.

For those who care about WiDi, this particular laptop doesn't support Widi. I ordered it 2 weeks ago, and returned it. I ordered it after confirming with sales rep, who told me that this laptop has got everything to support WiDi. He is right on the part that Y500 has everything required for Widi. But because of SLI configuration, Intel's own 4000 GPU has been disabled. So, Widi will not work.

I got the laptop for the price of $800, without the 16GB SSD cache memory.

I bought this laptop at 3/23/13 and it shipped two days after and I received it on 3/27/13,

I got the Synaptics version and the touchpad is functioning just fine, and I'm totally not going to use my external keyboard and mouse anymore. This is heavy no doubt, and just by lifting it up for a few seconds, I started to feel the weight. Being an IT, I didn't mind Windows 8 and I got used to it in seconds. Also, it does have bloatware, but just few and not much. I never had a 1080p and for the most of my life, I had 720p and 1366x768 resolution; however, now I have and with 1920x1080 resolution and with a Full HD screen, I can say that I'm a converter. Speakers in this machine and from the reviews, it is no lie and it is one of the best speakers I've ever heard and I've used external Logitech speakers in the past and with these speakers, I have no need any more. I haven't tried other features like Ultrabay, mainly because I'm new with these SSDs, and in the near future, when I have the financial need. However, right now, the current HDD is good and I have no complaint, plus I have 5TB of external harddrives. With the battery life, I barely use the battery and I always have it plugged. 3 hours is more than enough for me.

Being an IT, I'm real picky when it comes to choosing computers and electronics, and I have came close to these Ultrabooks and notebooks posted here at Slickdeals, they were good but not what I was looking for. Fortunately, I have found the machine that over exceeds my expectation. I can say without a doubt, that this is the best decision I've ever made, and if you don't mind it being heavy, than I highly recommend you get this before it goes to $1000. This is an Excellent laptop and I've used laptops for many years; I give this laptop, a rating: 5/5. The only thing it doesn't have is blu-ray but that's just a preference and It doesn't deserve to be lowered.

Happy Shopping and I wish you all but the best.

This was the same review that had me pull the gun.

Now I am debating on sending mine back and havnt even received it and order a new one...

paid 950
16gb ram @ 10600, instead of the new 12800 (dont know if theres a difference) anyone?
has the 750m instead of the 650m i bought,
still same stats 1tb + 16msata

however, the one i ordered has blu ray, while this one does not

so the $100 difference is 8gb of ram @ a slower speed, and lack of blu ray, but in trade of 750 instead of 650m...

Performance

Depending on clock speed and memory configuration, the GT 750M performs slightly above the GT 650M or GTX 660M. The fastest models with GDDR5 may even match the GTX 670M. Most current games (as of 2013) can be played fluently in high settings. In older titles, there are also reserves for additional quality features like AA and AF.

Solid deal but for those who don't need a monster gaming machine, I find the Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition (with 7730M GPU) provides a better value when it's on sale.

Awesome deal. Great specs. I would jump into this if I haven't bought my Asus.

Some said Lenovo shipped earlier laptops earlier than estimated. Are you talking about the estimated time provided in the order?

My order says it'll be shipped on 27th. Wish it'll ship earlier.

Thanks

WiDi sucks the big one. Really laggy, and unless you have a perfect connection you can forget about streaming HD video. At least that was my experience with my Sony Vaio Z2. Gave up on it after days of messing about with it.

It really depends, you never know but usually it's after or on 1 business day you get a more accurate shipping date and depending on your location, it will get delivered by UPS (signature is required) 3 to 5 business days, but if you're in Alaska or Hawaii, just expect more time.

I'd get something cheaper with an ssd, mainly because I have a similar spec'd notebook and find myself not using its full potential with my university work.

Heads up everyone, Intel's Haswell is coming out ~June. Their new line up is going to be significantly faster than Ivy. (tock)

If you're looking for a high end just wait, especially if you need a notebook in august/september.
