Lenovo had another price drop on the Y500 Laptop. Use the Barnes and Noble Gold affiliate website below and save $30 over the standard Lenovo website. You must log in or create an account for the affiliate pricing.

Once logged in navigate to the Y500 page. Second selection should be for the IdeaPad Y500 Laptop - 59371972. You could choose a different configuration but this one is the best value. Direct link:

Current promotional pricing using IDEADOORBUSTER code is $869. Through the above link it will be $839. This includes the GeForece GT750M and the 16GB SSD drive which acts as a cache (OS is not saved on it).

Yesterday the price for this was $899 without the 16GB SSD. The last deal on this was $799 for the model with the GT650M graphics card. The GT750M is superior.

I did notice the issue. Apparently the GPU is being throttled when on battery. The battery probably can't handle the power draw. It would be handled by the bios, and wouldn't be something that can be "fixed." Probably shouldn't try to bypass that setting, even if it were possible (which it's not)... could cause some serious damage.
Thanks for checking!

No problem...sorry it's not the answer you were looking for. It's a bit annoying, I know. I had it connected to my TV, without the power adapter plugged in, so I could test out some stereoscopic 3D game. It was incredibly stuttery. Dropped the frame rate to something like 5FPS.

Probably some bloatware, but nothing important.

As someone already mentioned, getting the back cover off the y500 is a pain in the ass.

This thing is beyond PITA for taking off the back cover. Contemplating return this thing. You pretty much have to break all the tabs at the (2) battery compartment and the (2) optical bay compartment. If you do, they cover will be flimsy. It seems the USB3.0 is stuck to the back cover. Not sure how to properly remove it. Frustrating.
