Had a old lawn mower with a broken shaft that still turned on, took it up there they turned it on didnt try it or leave it on for more then a second or they would of noticed lol. But after they made sure it turned on they approved in and I got the electric one...
Now the question is, is it safe to leave it in the rain?
thanks OP. went to drop off the mower and they are ordering the corded one for me.
a word of advise for other SDer.. i called them before going in and they said needs to be running for 5 mins. so i went today without any gas inside. when i got there they were hesitant to do the exchange.. probably because of the paperwork involved.
one guy said it will take an hour (trying to discourage me into exchanging) and even said i need to put gas in to run it. so i took out the print out (very important) and show them it should not have gas in it, so i followed the ad.
he then said, it's ok, they have gas.. BUT needs to be running for at least 5 mins. which is fine by me. this 13yr old mower starts after awhile, so i can always keep it going till it starts.
finally, manager came out (after waiting for 30 mins) looked at the mower and said any gas inside to start it up? i said NOPE and showed him the flyer. he said ok and we did the 5 min paperwork.
bottomline... they will try to discourage you to exchange i think.. either they don't want to do the paperwork, or just being lazy. eitherway.. bring the print out from the OP's link of the AD with you.
Update on mine: went to get the mower they ordered and wow, boy looked 5 years old mower looked like it was already used now they are having a hard time finding a different one. Said they would call me monday after getting in touch with corporate.

Husband is going to call the Harrisburg location and see about doing this.
Edit to update: He called and confirmed they were participating and the manager put a reel mower behind the counter for us. When we got to the store they had prominent signs in the parking lot and in-store about this program. The manager had my husband take the mower around to the service area and they used ether to start it. Took multiple tries and a wheel fell off in the process, lol, but it DID crank. Came back in and did a little paperwork (name, address, phone number), then the cashier rang it up for $0 for inventory purposes. Put the new mower in the trunk. Process took about 20 minutes total and the manager was really nice about it. Thanks OP, without this thread we would have just taken the mower to the scrap place.

I called when I posted this deal and had a reel mower (the only one they had) put on hold. Picked it up today. The manager asked if my mower ran, and it does, and said he would check it later. Did the paperwork and the total exchange took about 20 minutes. The manager said they had done 3 others today.
anyone find the replacement battery? is it a regular ole SLA that I can get at any auto store or even a Costco/BJ's ? if it isn't a special battery... i'm guessing you can even charge it with one of those chargers that go on sale every so often at sears? my 11 y.o. rusty crapbag mower needs to be outta here. this would fit the bill (though i'm scared about runtime... i'm at about 1/3 acre).
I took mine in on Saturday. They had to get mine to start and said it must run for 20 seconds.(why are all the stores doing things diffently?) - they just shot starting fluid in it fired it up for 5 seconds and said ok. The service guy seemed very annoyed to do the paperwork. I ended up getting the free one. Gonna dress up like "mad men" when I use it.
My old mower was only 5 years or so old however it has run over many many many rock and stumps. The blade hits the ground and shakes the mower when running. It spit oil and smoke all over the tech that started it. They only left it on a few seconds and said it was fine. I only got the free mower as I have another good gas mower. I was about to trash the junk one anyways.

A nation without secure borders is no nation at all.
Bought a crappy mower on craigslist for 20 bucks that ran and picked up the $150 one a couple days ago.
Started the old one up and they basically just said "Ok", they did the paperwork and we left with a new mower. Pretty painless. But yeah, definitely worth it to call ahead.
Thanks a bunch OP.
I had my FIL's old mower sitting in back to be scrapped. I shot starter fluid in it just to make sure it started - which is about all it will do (bad carb). The guys at Pep Boys did the same. It fired for a few seconds and they said "good to go". I was out the door in less that 15 minutes with the reel mower.
As others have said, this is one time I would call. They only had one reel mower in stock and one corded at our local store (Fruitville Pike).
