This is a decent little tablet. It does run full windows 8, can install office, etc. It's usually pretty snappy, but some games can lag. The start button is horrible and takes a few tries to register your touch sometimes. I've been using this for about a month and have been happy with it.
i disagree, windows 8 on these newer atom CPUs are more than acceptable. I have the surface and an IBM lynx, and for most casual uses, i can't tell the difference performance wise.
I am sure for games there would be a big difference, but that is what my desktop is for
Basically a netbook without a keyboard. Netbooks were horrible because of the slow Atom processors, lack of RAM, and small displays. Windows 8 tablets have the advantage of at least a touch screen.
I've run Win 8 since pre-release and its a big step down from Win 7. Combine that with a small screen and no keyboard? These will be on Woot for $199 very soon.
I just can't do any windows OS on a tablet. Those intel atoms are hogs. Hogs with poop in their pants.
Sounds as though neither of you have used the current generation Atom chipsets nor Windows 8 on a touch-screen device. You should watch the review on YouTube for the Lenovo Lynx K311w tablet (same specifications as this one). Windows 8 supports a side-by-side app mode, much like picture-in-picture on a TV. The YouTube video shows the reviewer streaming an HD YouTube video while playing a video game in this mode. Needless to say, the new Atom chipsets are very capable and offer a huge leap over its predecessors (NotebookCheck and Anandtech both show the new Z2760 is faster than both the NVidia Tegra 3 architecture and the Intel Core2Duo T5400 processor).
In other words, this is a plenty capable machine for most users; at 1.2pounds, it'll replace your laptop and tablet.
I've been given three different 2013-model Windows 8 hybrid tablets for review. The only issue I've had was the limited 2GB of RAM in each Atom chipset model. Otherwise, I wholeheartedly recommend these tablets to travelers who need productivity on the road IF they can get it at a discount of $400 or below.
Bought this last night, had a 10% off ebay coupon, and will get about $8 bucks back in "ebaybucks" bringing my cost down to around $370.
I really like Win 8 and the ability to run full apps on this like Filezilla and Photoshop is awesome. I tried doing some web work on a 7 inch android tablet while traveling a few months ago and it was absolute torture. Can't wait to put this to use.
