Also, is the gary fong diffuser or what ever is compatible with the 600ex worth buying? I've heard all it does is spread the light in all directions making you use more power. The part hitting the subject is still coming from a small light source and there for harsh shadows.
Ive had luck with a home made bouncer to put on the top of the flash with the flash aimed at the ceiling so the light source is 4 times larger, but I also probably look like a moron using that.
This would just be for indoor weddings. For outdoor portraits I use an umbrella and make the assistant look like a moron.
I've been experimenting with Ikea's kitchen drawer liner - rationelle. The clear one not the smoky gray version. Cut a piece horizontally, wrap it around the flash, use a rubber band to hold in place. Insta light diffuser.
I received my 600ex in the mail today from adorama, talk about fast shipping, I didnt expect it for another week since I went for the free shiipping method.
I love the thing! Although its a wii bit more complicated than the manual vivitar 285hv's that ive been using! But its pretty straight forward and I think im going to like the overheat warning option. I think that is why I have been going through my vivitar 285's the last few years, been burning them out.
Now I just wish my canon cameras were the newer ones so I can control the power output manually from the camera wirelessly.
