Ive put in about 50 hrs into this game. I really need to get back to it. lol been playing too many other games. There have been so many updates and content drops. Game is great and gorgeous. Really love the PvP and exploring the world. The story is good too and you actually want to make alts just to see how the stories progress for the different races. Really love this game. If you plan on buying - buy it at GreenManGaming the next time they have a discount code. I preordered mine for $48 from them and never regret it.
This game is awesome. I have over 500 hours in the game now, as I love trying out all the different classes, have explored all of the world, and the dungeons are quite fun. The artwork is beautiful in the game, make sure you stop and just enjoy around you in the game sometime (which the Vista help you do in the game, as you get experience for these views that give awesome screenshots!). The Personal Story aspect is alright, the story isn't the greatest in my opinion but still decently fun. I have PvP'ed a couple times, and overall it seems quite fun but I would say they are still fleshing it out to be a real competitive environment.
I absolutely recommend trying it out, and if you like it and want to play right away, 60 dollars is definitely worth it. If you like it but aren't in a hurry, it has commonly been on sale for 40 to 48 dollars, and even down to 30 before. The fact that they regularly put out free content makes it worth it even if you only play during those times, and while there are in-game purchases, none of them are required at all for you to enjoy or excel in the game.
Obviously just my opinion but GW2 is a shell of the great game GW1 was. I bought it on release and played for maybe 40 hours but all of the classes are just kind of blah, the public quests are generally just a zerg where you have no noticeable effect, and the crafting system is horrible and a HUGE time/money sink. You even go broke just using the fast travel system and at least as of a couple months after release end game was just farming the same zone over and over.
Not saying it's a bad game but the most enjoyable part for me was just the environments as they are extremely detailed and beautiful.
I love this game, but I did quit three months after release except for the occasional series of PvP matches. I consider it the best MMORPG ever released.
Pros: For casual players who invest less than 20 hours a week there will be months of enjoyment. For MMO addicts there will be weeks of enjoyment, The game engine is flawless, the exploration is top-notch, and the combat is semi-twitch with no boring classic mmo archetypes. Farming is not required. Crafting yields no benefit other than considerable experience points, but it is unique and entertaining. The game is designed so you can reach the max level equally by crafting, questing, or exploring the map. The game runs well on modest graphics cards as long as you have a CPU less than three years old.
My favorite part of the game is structured player versus player combat because it is so polished and balanced, Everyone has the same gear to select from so its more like playing rounds of a sports game than other MMO games where players with more money or hours invested have an advantage. Completely skill based structured PvP.
Cons: For traditional MMO addicts the endgame is crap. The game economy was ruined the first week after launch and has been re-ruined several times by various exploits and hacks... this however doesn't devalue much as the game has a unique central trading system which takes these hits well without most players noticing.
The 100v100v100 player battles are impressive, but joy wears of fast as its been unbalanced and has been futile frustration for a year (since early beta testing) and has yet to improve (even with the recent major content patch).
