Some resources:

Reddit: http://reddit.com/r/usenet <-- LOTS of information here. Read and read and read.
FTDworld: http://ftdworld.net A Spotweb implementation. Mainly for Dutch users, but mostly English (i.e. English audio, etc).
Free Public Search: https://binsearch.info (Raw Searching) or https://nzbx.co (less raw searching, basic browsing)

Various other sites and goodies @ the reddit.com link.

A small listing of Dutch providers: (Learn Dutch! Use google translate to help)
Tweaknews.eu
ExtremeUsenet.nl
ssl-news.info
4ux.nl
Cheapnews.eu (might be hard to pay for from USA)
Sunnyusenet (again near impossible to pay for right now from USA)

Question regarding backup block accounts: Do programs like Newsleecher or SABNZB automatically download the missing blocks that were DMCA'd from the backup block account? Or do I have to manually determine which blocks are missing and go from there?

What's the troll's name who comes around anytime anything Usenet-related is posted? The one who states a whole bunch of crap that has no factual basis...

Sounds about right.

My favorite of his/her/its arguments: "Usenet is the reason that television is terrible."

I was just reading up on that in the reddit forum mentioned above. Some readers will allow you to check the backup option in setup. I'm unsure what my Newsbin will do, will test later.

Just signed up. FYI, I was charged $9 when I looked at my Payment History on their site. It also stated $9 in the email they sent me. I had to do a live chat to have them correct my monthly charge to $6. For the $9 they already charged, I had to open a offline support ticket to ask for refund. Hopefully this will not be an issue, if so I will reply back here.
Got an email they refunded my $3 to my credit card and on their web site it shows -$3 in payment history. So everything looks good now.

Yes, sabnzbd and newsbin pro will allow 'backup' or 'slave' servers. You specify when adding the server. If your main server doesn't have the file, it will attempt to source it from your backup/slave service.

So the Dutch servers don't have the problems that the US ones do?

ditto, just checked and newsbin has a checkbox for Fill Server for files missing from primary. I'm burning through my Cubenet block too fast and they don't have much over Astraweb. Now I'll use tweaknews.eu as my fill server with Astraweb. I'm not good at this but trying to cut the cord. Directv just cut me some slack so I'll stick with them for awhile.

most have a fee trial, just signed up for one at
oops I meant https://www.tweaknews.eu/
from their site "Safe because you are free to use SSL you can rest assured that no big brother is watching you."
Judge for yourself. I'm guessing they have what you need. All you need is a name and email address to test.
I learn a lot from you guys. Smilie

If your question is regarding my post , I really don't think that the location of the server is of much consequence , inasmuch as FTD is just a chat room with links to usenet posts--not a server.

Think of it as a barebones "NZBMatrix".

About Tweaknews, is the 10Mbit limit per thread or for the whole simultaneous download? Do they offer any deals at times? Thanks so much!

Anyone have a link to their actual VPN service details? I'd like to know what gateways in which countries they have available.

And if they are logfree... On that note, does anyone know of any good logfree cheap by the day VPN providers?
