Usenet kind of sucks. I have it now and search using binsearch.info and nzbindex. Seems like a majority of the files are password protected and make you jump through some ridiculous hoops just to get the password for the archive. When it works its awesome but just expect to deal with tons and tons of password protected files. This might not bother people on an unlimited plan but those of us who have block plans burn through data for no reason because of this. It really is a cess pool out there.

Does anyone have any experience with this VPN? Is it an account from slickvpn? How easy is it to set up?
It says in the FAQ they use slickvpn. Their TOS basically says they keep logs as legally required and will legally turn over the logs if required.

Meh, after NZBmatrix got taken down there's no point using UseNet. Most uploads gets taken down after an hour or two of posting.

You can use automated downloaders but there's no way of telling if the file is fake or not. You can use private sites but good luck getting in.
I agree completely. Usenet is dead. Everybody move on to something else and take the focus away from this dead dead service.

Deanzel has a lot of good info in his post for all you usenet newbs!

Personally I never used NZBMatrix ever in my life so I wasn't hurt much other then newbies flocking to where I usually hang out in.

Anyways I actually keep an old copy of newleecher around just so I can pull headers when I want to, old habit but useful sometimes to just browse a group but now a days they're using so many different groups it's becoming a lost art.

I actually just jumped into the SabNZB ship last month and still getting used to it, I still miss a separate program but there is no better software out now as newsreaders are dying off slowly!

I know newsdemon was one of the sites newsbin linked to. They are also a site nzbmatrix trusted enough to link on their site and on nzbxxx as well. They have been around a long time and have a pretty good rep.

I also know that a lot of these questions about vpn providers "logging" are kind of pointless. There are two kinds of vpn providers. Those who log the IP address used to access their servers and those who lie and say they do not log anything. ALL vpn providers who want to stay in business will log the IP address you use to access their system. If they do not, they can not act on take down notices and they have no rights under DMCA type laws. If they are not worried about their DMCA rights, then they are likely going to take your money for as long as you give it to them and then when they get shut down, they will run away with your money. I would NOT trust any vpn provider who claims to not log anything.

To my knowledge, no vpn actually logs WHAT and WHERE you visit. Just the IP address you use to connect to their network. It allows them to turn your account off when they get a take down notice.

Most VPN providers do not want to "rat out" their customers, its not in their best interest. They will protect their customers as long as possible. You are best off finding a good cheap VPN provider with a server relatively close to where you are located.

im sick of usenetserver. Something that was posted for one day and is already taken down. All the stuff I get are usually on DMCA's watch so i cant dl anything off highwinds servers. Goodbye highwinds.

Keep in mind, for most users block accounts are really a much better value. At the TB price it's 4.4 cents/gb. You would have to download over 137 gb per month to make the $6/month more cost efficient than the TB block account.
137 GB is nothing for many people. Some do that in a day.

So the Dutch servers don't have the problems that the US ones do?
Not as much. Newsdemon just started doing automated takedowns. I had the $6 deal from Black Friday but cancelled yesterday and signed up for tweaknews.

Yea, I read this earlier, but it really makes no sense. Many of the companies listed say they comply with the DMCA and that they use shared IP addresses so they can't single out a user. This is nonsense. To follow the rules and comply with a DMCA take down notice, you must notify the person who posted the content that their content is being removed and then give them the opportunity to prove ownership. Otherwise you are not complying. A vpn provider knows the IP address of the server that was used to post the content and they then must know the IP address of the customer who connected through that server. It may be a case where they have to notify multiple users that such and such content is going to be taken down, but they do have to notify someone or they are surrendering their rights of protection.

i also agree. there are only so many linux ISOs you can download. with ubuntu releases 6 months apart, i think it'd be best to just get them from canonical.

Do that here and you'd get a $6,000 overage bill at the end of the month!
