The same deal is available as an online purchase for Entertainment Book owners. It seems to be a permanent coupon, and has been available the last several years.

If the LINK [entertainment.com] doesn't work, just do a search for "Costco" on the Entertainment.com web site, their deal is available until December 31st.

I would want to know the entire details of the $55 worth of coupons before committing to this. Rotisserie chicken <= $5 48pk batteries... do I really even need that? bottled water... maybe $5... the vagueness of it isn't promising.

When Sams Club had the groupon offer that was similar a couple months ago, at least part of the $45 in gifts to make up the cost was a $25 gift card and every other free item was specifically listed (all food, but hey... i like food).

could you open membership get the free items and cancel next day for pro-rata refund?

Yeah, the vaguness is concerning. You'd think if they were going to do a partial list, they'd bust out their big guns. Batteries, chicken, and water doesn't seem all that appealing to me.

It is vague with the exception of the chicken, batteries and water, but I still think it's a great deal for those that are thinking of upgrading. Once you have Executive you receive 2% back each year on all your purchases (except gas)

I have done 2 of these coupon offers, and from memory, Free Roti Chicken, 48 AA batteries, 35 1/2 litre water...
$5 off any purchase of fresh meat. (I used on a whole USDA Prime Rib Eye cut the pirce to only$196!)
$3 of a 24 oz package of Chocolate Chunk Cookies (Habit Forming!)
$1.50 off 1 lb (BIG!) package of mixed spring lettuce (lasts WAY past the sell by date!)
$3 off 6 - 12.5 oz. cans of Kirkland Chicken Breast (Ho hum)
$3 off 6 cans of Kirkland Albacore Tuna. ( DRY very DRY BRUT even)
$3 off 1 (HUMONGOUS) food court pizza (To reheat, use your oven NOT YOUR MICROWAVE)
$10 ? off eye glasses (did not use)
$3 off Kirkland Coffee 2 lb package (get the whole bean)

That is all I can remember!

Costco does not like for members to get any deals when we renew. Moreover, they think we are all members for life. So, when this one runs out I plan to go into the store, and ask the store manager how long I need to be a non-paying member to qualify for the new member coupon deals...

Anyone know if you upgrade to Executivve, does that upgraded status last for 12 months or just for the term of your existing membership?

Would suck to pay full $55 for upgrade and have less than a year out of it.

LoL, no, because if they were really a cheapskate, they'd keep the membership.

People get all caught up in "headline" numbers like the cost of a cell phone, a printer, or in this case Costco. The cost of a phone & printer is the cost to USE the thing over time, which means you're nearly always better buying a more expensive printer, because over time it costs a LOT less. Sort of the same thing with Costco. Sure, the yearly membership is $55 and yes, you can find a Hot Deal that'll beat their pricing on a specific item. But it's pretty easy to save more than $55 in a year on things that you need right away and can't get a deal on, and they offer nice perks like extended warranties and such (for free). Shoot, I saved $80 off of the best price I could find ANYWHERE else when I had to replace my car battery a few months ago. Made the membership back in a single purchase. (And I did spend a fair amount of time looking for a better price.)

The coupons aren't tied to the voucher. You can, for example, give the voucher to someone as a gift and keep the coupons for your own use.

Now, a lot depends on the particular store, but I've had no problem letting mine expire for about a month and then starting a new membership.

I asked about this last visit, and the person at the counter seemed to be saying that it'd prorate in some situations, and not others (depending on the length of membership.) I have a feeling that they weren't correct. You'd think it'd just do the math and push out the combined renewel date $55 worth. Satisfaction guaranteed though, so if you don't save more than $55 using the executive membership by whatever date it ends up expiring, they'll refund your money.
