I'm listening to my police scanner.....this is insane

Reddit has a thread of people following it, if you want to google it.

There have been reports of explosives and grenades. Also, a stolen police vehicle. I'm just relaying what others have reported....so who knows.

Interview with the mother. Kinda sad that she can't see it. She talks about how often the FBI came to her house saying that her son could be the leader of Islam and how the FBI was scared of him.

I'm trying to get caught up and skimmed through most of the posts so I may have missed it already being mentioned, but it sounds like Dzhokhar Tsarnaev became a naturalized U.S. citizen on Sept. 11, 2012.

The little farking terrorist probably got a kick out of the timing of that.
I thought about the irony of that date, myself.

I am so glad that everyone is safe and that this nightmare is (hopefully) over. What really gets me, is that both brothers were wearing iconic clothing with "capitalist" logos and designer names, yet, would do perpetrate this act of terror on Americans. The oldest brother was quoted as having no American friends, yet was married to an American and wanted to be a part of our Olympic team? Ya don't like us? GTFO! Go back to where you DO have friends!

Did you want the cops to search every house in the entire DC metro area? Or was there another point you were making that I'm not getting here?
You were the one who specifically mentioned and were comparing this situation to rapists, murderers, purse-snatchers...which is why I gave you an example of murderers where a door-to-door search type scenario would not have worked, and that there was a logic (turned out to be a poor one) behind the madness yesterday.

They felt there was enough intel to know he was in a certain location. Now we know, in fact, he was actually right outside the perimeter, and the entire door-to-door search was futile. It was almost dumb luck we caught this guy - the only thing the authorities got right was that he was probably in Watertown (although some said going towards CT), he got away by foot (even that was conflicting - ie CRV/Honda Civic) and they believed to have at least wounded him the night before.

Turns out the first suspect and his wife live a few streets away from where I work EEK! For all I know, I could have seen them everyday at lunch. They put the house up for sale yesterday. Gee, I wonder why.

They said there was heavy police presence in the quiet upscale neighborhood yesterday but I didn't see anything.

I wasn't comparing the situations, I was asking what conditions warrant suspension of our Constitutional rights. People kept saying "this is a special circumstance stop talking about your rights can't you see the cops HAD to do the search" and I'm wondering where they'd draw the line.

If anybody wanted to call me out on a slippery slope fallacy they might have an argument, actually. Except that I'm asking a question in a hypothetical sense, "what's too much for you to swallow," and not necessarily saying "this is the first rock in a landslide."

Yes, and I'm happy to hear that the searches were consensual and that the police were (I think) respectful and polite.

I'm still interested in the thought experiment and the hypothetical.

How come all these guys are wearing body armor and have "assault weapons" and armored vehicles and everything else to be safe? Shouldn't they just have double-barrel shotguns like Joe Biden says is all you need? Just go on a porch, fire two blasts into the air, and there'll be no problem.

Because the guys they were up against were throwing bombs.

The podium is that way. >

Regular people are up against those same guys throwing bombs. The police even thought they might be in someone's house, because they were searching houses.

Apparently the non-military police need military body armor and "military assault weapons" because they're up against guys throwing bombs but you don't need that stuff if the guys throwing bombs are in your house. You apparently just need to fire a double-barrel shotgun in the air from your porch like Joe Biden says.

I saw no mention of telling that to all the people above me talking about constitutional rights and things, so I figured we weren't concerned about separation of Lounge and Podium anymore. And if my posts get deleted, then so should all of those.

All this, considering the fact that a trained person would have no problem taking this kid alive with bare hands.

They don't. All BS. Simply because police is searching for someone, doesn't suspend anybody's rights.
People are sheep, so they believe the master.

How can that be? Aren't bombs illegal and banned?

That's funny considering you dismiss reality. You know . . . . we wanted real reform because of all of the mass killings using guns. Never mind that all of the mass shooters were on psychotropic drugs and played games simulating killing people on a regular basis.

It didn't hit me until I heard a third of fighter pilots were going to be grounded because of the sequester. Turns out their training will be supplemented with simulation . . . . video games.

Then it hit me . . . simulation is how you train. Call of Duty, GTA, Medal of Honor, Gears of War, etc., they're all training tools. Yet we have nothing in your recent gun ban that failed to pass to address medication (other than restricting rights) and video game violence. No. We have the 94 gun ban and then some.

Wow. It's almost like they want to restrict gun ownership instead address the problem. My "joke" was that the government would rather go after the tool (in this case a pressure cooker which the majority of people use legally) and make them criminal.
Not sure why you quoted me as part of your ramblings
