First deal post....

Amazon has the McLane 801 [amazon.com] gas powered edger on sale for $289.99 w/ free shipping, lowest price I have seen. Typically it is $329.99. Not a huge drop in price, but it seems it never is on sale and costs about the same or less than 'comparable' big box brands w/ taxes.

Gets very good reviews for performance, subpar for setup and instructions. Most appear to be very happy with it.

I have looked at the big box stores and most of the selections get ok reviews at best but most Amazon reviews claim that this is far superior to those.

of course now after the fact I see that this is the CA carb compliant version. All of the above is still true if you are in CA. The normal one is $299.99, which is the price it is almost always is as it rarely goes on sale, but not the lowest it has ever been. Not quite the deal I thought it was. Still, if you are in need of an edger, this looks better than Lowe's/HD/Sears alternatives

I have one of these - though I bought it used. It is a very nice edger and works well. It is much nicer than the Craftsman and other units I have used in the past.

A few notes:
- Amazon will not accept returns due to this being a gasoline powered product. There is a small note under the picture.
- If you do buy this, the engine oil can be poured in the front port - just take off or move the front wheels (which are adjustable and meant to be moved).
- The speed adjuster is the weak link on this unit. But even if you break it, the engine still has the lever to adjust the engine speed.
- The engine is a Briggs and Stratton clone of the venerable Honda engine (for those that care) and does have ample power to dig in when necessary.
