Deal Details

G-Shock Watch, Men's Digital MUDMAN Black Resin Strap G9300-1 [macys.com]

During Checkout, apply coupon "FRIEND" or "FNFMOB" which marks it down by 25% to $150. State taxes wherever applicable.

Shipping is FREE (3-6 business days)

Can use ShopDiscover because there is 10% CB on Macy's, however the fine print says cannot be combined with other offers outside of ShopDiscover, so I am not sure. If it does work, then the deal would be better.

Other G-Shock models as well as many other watches seem to have these 25% coupons working at checkout, so there are plenty of choices.

Great price on this watch. I have 2 limited editions already, this will make a great everyday watch. This has more features than most will need, I suggest a more basic watch that's a more reasonable size for most people. There are a ton of nice G-Shocks, best watches ever(not counting my Suunto).

I bought the limited edition gold one for $195 [ebay.com]on ebay.

This deal after tax is $163.31 for me, it is only $31.69 difference but the value of the limited edition gold version is worth $300+ and it will keep climbing up.

Don't buy watches that will depreciate in value...my grandfather's rolex was purchased for $500 back then. Today's value is $7000.

Just my 2 cents.

But on a note, this is a great deal for this watch ! Going rate is $185 on ebay, had my eye on it for half a year until I found the gold limited edition for $195.

I can appreciate that perspective, but I don't particularly agree. In general, ultra-high-end pieces aside, watches are a terrible investment. Especially if - god forbid - you actually intend to wear the thing. Each ding/scuff represents a loss. If you're looking to make money, you're much better off focusing on other commodities/collectibles.

Personally, I have...let's just say WAY too many watches. Almost all were good deals when I bought them, but had I paid the full going rate, nearly all would have significantly depreciated in value by now. The only exceptions are a couple of limited editions, and a couple of JDM-only pieces that were just really hard to find. That depreciation doesn't bother me at all, because they're all still worth something to me.

I'd simply say: buy/wear what you like, not what you think you can ultimately resell for a profit. Because while you might get lucky and cash in, chances are you probably won't.

Good post, I agree. Made me change my mind on buying a rolex now.

A trick regarding Discover cashback that has worked for me in the past: go ahead and log into the website you're going to buy from, add the item(s) to your cart, and apply any coupon codes. Close the tab. Then go to the Shop Discover website and do your thing (find the retailer, click the link, end up on the website you're buying from - usually in a new tab). You should still be signed in, your cart should still have your item(s), and any discount codes you've applied should still be in effect. From there, check out out like usual and use your Discover card.

This has worked for me almost every time...I haven't paid attention all the time, so I can't say as I've gone back to check to see if the Discover CB went through, but the times I have, it's worked.

Sometimes I'll go and add something to my cart and then remove it before checking out, my thought being that they might somehow track whether you've done what I suggested (add ahead of time and then use the Shop Discover website). I don't know that it's made a difference, but I CAN say that the method above works at least SOME of the time. YMMV.

People don't buy GShocks (or any digital watch) for investment. They buy them for ruggedness, virtually no maintenance and the fact that these watches can take a good pounding and continue to work.

Good price even though I wear my Suunto Core for all digital/ABC needs.

this might work with discover. but other cb sites explicitly say that if you had any items in your cart prior to following the link this would void the cb so do it at your own risk. would be interested though to hear what experience other people have with the above described trick

Even though many people do buy G-Shocks for that reason, there are still many collectors who buy limited editions for investment. You should see some of the collections the guys over at http://forums.watchuseek.com/f17 have.
