Is this supposed to be hooked up to the car battery only temporarily, or permanently? Those cables look awfully short, and I see no actual specification of how long they are. Like a poster above me said, this will blow a fuse on a cigarette lighter.
I would personally get a HF brand inverter. You can get a bigger inverter for $. I think I have a 2,000 inverters but wish I would have bought a larger one. My 2,000 watt inverter struggles to power my circular saw. It will work only if my truck is running and will not work on more dense woods such at treated lumber. My saw is rated for 14A but at max loads the 2000 is just not enough.
I have a small 400 that i have permanently hooked up in my car and it is remotely powered on via tractor starter solenoid so I dont have +12V at all times but only when it is in use. It works great for powering laptop, phones, tablet, etc.
also the draw on the 12V system will be about 62 amps so it will require about 6 gauge wires to safely hook it up at any distance. The cables that are attached are likely much smaller but the distance is only about 1 foot. I would typically use a set of jumper cables and cut the ends off and solder on some welding lugs to hook it up.
Your smoker is only 300 watt? That sounds far too low.
My Green Mountain Grill "Jim Bowie". takes about 250 to initially start the Auger, then continuous 60watts to keep it running.. so yup it is that low :-D.
I'm wondering what he's talking about? Like a pot vaporizer is the only thing I can think of that would only use 300 watts. lol
Nope my Green Mountain Grill and Traeger Pellet grills both are about 250-300max to Start the auger then only 50-60watts continuous to run it...
For Competition BBQing most people will carry around a Car Battery and a inverter if there isn't a power source near. it will allow them to smoke for about 26-30hours before needing any charge .
BUTTT im going to bring my smoker camping for Memorial Day Weekend so it went on sale Perfect timing since most of the time when i go camping there ins't power outlets so bringing my grill was out of the question..
