Amazon inflates the price of Apple Lappies most of the time. They are also the last to show a deal/drop on Apple products' prices
We have seen a lot of deals from bestbuy and others on retina macbooks and it's nice to see amazon finally jumping in when we are couple of months away from haswell equipped macbooks
why not?. If its a macbook pro the HD is replaceable. HD + RAM. Thats about it. cant yank out the cpu or anything else. and any other model you are pretty much sol. as apple makes the memory non upgradeable. UNLESS apple changed and you cannot upgrade the hard drive or memory in the macbook pro model(s)
In the regular MBP, HD and RAM are upgradable. Here, in the rMBP, neither are. (actually, the SSD can be changed, but its a non-standard form factor and is extremely expensive to change).
Good price, only $100 more for the 256GB version. Keep in mind that Apple generally announces new laptops in June, so we may see price drops and / or a freshened model. Many are predicting the death of the non-Retina MacBook pro line, so it will be interesting.
This is a great price, but if you don't need one ASAP, I'd suggest waiting a month or two to see what Apple will release between now and then.
Not as much Apple hate here as I expected to find.
Just came here to say that, though I don't have the 13, I do have an employer-furnished 15" Retina macbook, and the thing has been totally awesome from a hardware perspective. The screen res and crispness is just awesome. I know the 15 has a discrete gpu and the 13 does not, but I have a coworker with a 13 who also loves it. Her only gripe was the the 13 could not be bought with 16GB ram (we pretty much max our machines to get as much future-proofness as possible). If I had the extra scratch laying around I would definitely pick up a 13 rMBP, and will likely try to get one after the 2nd edition is released.
meh, I got my refurb 256GB i5 Macbook Air for $200 cheaper a few months back. No retina display but no wasted weight for DVD rom either. Seriously, when was the last time you used a DVD?
The retina display line don't have an optical drive either.
Also, not that it makes a big difference, but the reason this is so low is because it is an old model. The 212/213 series are the original releases of the 13 inch retina. The newer model is the 662. Slight increase in speed (3%) due to the faster processor speed. Other than that there really isn't a difference. The real change will be this summer (most likely) when they update to Haswell.
True, prices will CERTAINLY DROP but the ISSUE is can you wait for the newer models to come out; since the older models will be cheaper but you might like the newer model instead. If not then just settle for the older cheaper models. WIN WIN SITUATION HUH? LOL!
Typically with Apple, you never get an "amazing" deal. It's one of the few brands where I don't mind paying MSRP, but then I'll want to buy right after release, knowing that the product will usually stay fixed at that price for quite a while.
in this case, I'd like to see what Apple will do in June. It may be nothing, but I'm suspecting we may see a price drop in the "official" prices of these, as the MacBook Pro non-retina models disappear.
Also, if it were me and I needed a laptop right now, I'd spend the extra $50 and get the Amazon Warehouse Like New version with 256GB SSD. I've had really good luck with Warehouse deal Apple laptops (3 so far).
