Pretty nice compressor, huge difference compared to these little ones people have been listing lately. I saw one the the other day that did 1.7 CFM at 90 PSI... well, that's enough to fill some car tires. This unit will power just about anything you need at home or in small shop. I got mine for $200 from Sears Outlet last summer on a steal deal.
In for one (there was just one at the store in my town). I've been looking for a 60 or 80 gallon air compressor, and I was about to spend over $1,000 on one. Craftsman Professional tools have a great reputation.
I would like the price if this was a Dual stage...but being it is just a single stage I will pass and buy a used 2 stage with more HP off craigslist for less.
Uh, yeah, used equipment usually sells for less than new stuff. A new 2-stage air compressor usually sells for around $900 on up. You probably won't find a new one for under $500.
Also beware of the HP ratings on used air compressors. The air compressor manufacturers lost a class action lawsuit about 10 years ago for overinflating (no pun intended) their HP ratings. You really have to look at the air output ratings to see what the usefulness of an air compressor is. You might find an older air compressor that claims to be 5 HP that puts out less air than this new 3.1 HP model, because the 5 HP rating was overinflated. Also, a used air compressor might have worn rings, and might put out significantly less air than it is rated for.
This is an ok deal, you can get it for this price quite often. I have seen them as low as $400 (in fact i bought mine a few months ago when it was $400) It works great, I recommend it if you need/want a big compressor but don't need a full on dual stage large compressor.
