Deal Details

Hi everyone,

I was going to wait until Memorial day weekend, but found this offer to good to pass up. I just picked up the following washer and dryer for $775 after rebates, both have great reviews.

Energy Efficient Washer: http://www.sears.com/maytag-3.6-c...ockType=G1

Dryer: http://www.sears.com/maytag-7.4-c...ockType=G3

They are already on sales at Sears.com for $584.99 a piece. Right now you can stack the "SAVENOW" code for 15% off the additional savings, along with "SEARS35OFF300AFFILIATEDEALS" for $35 off.

All of may is Maytag Month, so on the above models you can get a $200 rebate visa gift card by mailing in this rebate form: http://www.sears.com/ue/home/s_ma...050113.pdf

In all I paid $775 after taxes, even less if you live in a tax free state.Big Grin

Does any place sell Speed Queen with option for 0% financing? I only see individual dealers offering it for sale.

front loaders use less water, but tend to get moldy/mildewy. Top loaders tend to be bigger, and the biggest front loaders aren't even close to the size capacities of top loaders unless you go commercial models. Other things can be said either way, but theyd on't hold their ground
Mold/Mildew - Does not happen if properly maintained as recommended by the manufacturer using an application specific cleaning product like Affresh

Capacity - Front loading machines typically have a LARGER capacity, not sure why you thought otherwise. You can usually wash a queen or king comforter in a front loading machine without risking damage, unlike a top loader. The top loading machine also wears out clothing more quickly because it uses an agitator.

The real drawback that comes with a front loader is the upfront cost and the much higher cost of repairs when needed.

Thanks OP. I actually moved last week and owned zero appliances until this post. Btw, if anyone has a Discover, they are running a Mother's Day 10% cashback bonus right now with Sears.com

New higher end top loaders don't have agitators.
Some of the new Samsungs have a 5.0 CU Ft size. Plenty of size for a king comforter.

Which one is better? Front loader or top loader?
Front loader is more expensive than top loader. I have a Maytag now, that sucker needs to be repaired every other month. Maybe we got a lemon washer, luckily we brought extended warranty. The repair each time cost half of the washer's price without warranty.

We have a Whirlpool washer, it has no problem at all. Both are front loaders. Same companies by the way.

I just bought a new top loader without the agitator and I must say i can't see how these new models clean clothes, they just swish them around lightly. How does it get stains out, I want to return it but I fear a restocking fee. It's a maytag bravos x mwvx700xl

I have a Maytag Bravos. Best to avoid. If you can find a traditional inefficient washing machine go with that.

And they don't clean clothes very well, either.

Size was never the issue, you can cram a comforter into virtually any washer - the trick is (a) getting it clean and (b) not damaging the washer in the process. Whirlpool used to make top loading washers without agitators (Calypso) which were actually quite good once they worked the kinks out, but even then they were expensive (~$900) and did not clean as well as a comparable front loader. That was followed by the simply awful Cabrio models.

Whirlpool has since abandoned that design. I repeat, the largest maker of residential major appliances in the world (since surpassing Electrolux in 06) has abandoned the notion of a top load HE washer with no agitator. It is unlikely that an outfit with virtually no experience in the design and manufacture of laundry appliances (like Samsung) will succeed where Whirlpool could not.

You also forgot to mention that the Samsung machine in question costs over $1k (more than a comparable Samsung front loader) and at the end of the day, will still not clean as well. It boasts an impressively bad 1.5 star aggregate review score at Amazon.
