Bah, just saw this and the early bird is already sold out .
I have the original Mountek and like others I didn't realize the ball-bearing on the back can be tightened. Almost returned it, but I contacted customer service and they told me about tightening it with a coin.
After that, it worked like a charm, though it looks like I may have to tighten it again soon, since I use it so much.
The magnetic strip version is very intriguing especially with my phone (Note II) where you have to sort of cram it in. With a magnetic snap on, it'd be so much nicer to use.
I'm willing to bet that was my mount. was the rental from hertz in California? what rental companies use these mounts? probably none. it was mine lol
No, it was my mount that I brought with me on vacation. Amazon had it as a gold box deal a few months ago so I bit. And I remembered to take it out before returning the car. Guess you have an excuse to buy the new one?
It's a great concept and easy application but on my car (06 Acura RSX) it complacently covers the climate control knobs. Also my stock receiver position is mounted a 30 degree upwards as opposed the horizontal like most cars so I tried placing it in the glove box. This works for the most part but is further away and it tends to point downward and faces the passenger moreso than me.
The units ball will only swivel a tiny bit which would be my only complaint if you need it to point up or down, left or right to greater extremes.
These are all faults belonging to the vehicle more so that the device so I am still quite happy with it. Just keep that in mind especially if you are going to use it for a larger phone like the Note II.
I bought a similar mount 2 months ago. However, one day I found the whole holder deformed, after long time exposed under the sun....... So if you're living in TX or AZ, think carefully before you pay for this piece of plastic. Now, I'm looking for any metal holder......
I bought 2 of these at the last sale, and I am VERY happy. This thing is WELL BUILT! The only thing is make sure you know which way you're installing it. I had mine upside-down for a few days before I realized it.
Edit: the photos show the "screw" on the bottom, but in my car that setup caused the holder itself to be facing a bit too far up to the ceiling. I flipped it and not only is the phone pointed directly in my direction, but the screw is hidden behind the mount. Just a heads up, it DOES mount either way, so give it a try
Does the CD player attachment make the CD player attempt to load a CD? I have a 6-CD changer in my 09 Dodge Journey...
This mount is no good. I purchased this on Meritline and received it a week ago. I installed it right after receiving in the mail.
The POSITIVE side: It was great especially its within my reach and not mounted far away like on the windshield. Love the easy secure slider bars on both sides and also the quick release button.
The NEGATIVE side: After a week of usage, I noticed my Radio Screen's clear plastic cover is coming off of it's adhesion because of the pressure feature to mount the device on the CD tray.
My 2009 Corolla has a Radio Screen Display below the CD tray. The Radio Screen Display has a clear plastic hard cover, well this almost came off because of the pressure to lock the mount into the CD slot was pushing down on the radio. The plastic cover is now barely attached with little bit of adhesion left which is barely keeping it in place. Between the CD tray and the Radio Display is atleast a half inch of gap of plastic console. But even then, it's still enough to pop off the plastic cover of my Radio Screen (Check attached image for better reference). It's dark out now, so I will take a picture tomorrow morning of what I mean about my situation.
So in CONCLUSION: I will be returning this and will grab either a windshield mount or dashboard sticky mount. It's a great device, but not for those who are in the same situation as me. Unless your CD tray is made of solid metal or something not plastic then the device is for you.
